  1. I don't mind cool nights, that way I get a chance to wear my corps jacket. It's so hot here in Texas that the only time I get to wear it is between late November and early February.
  2. Still no luck with the MTS but there is a red 14" SFZ on Ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/Yamaha-SFZ-Marching-Sn...1QQcmdZViewItem
  3. If you look on VicFirth.com for the "In the Lot" pictures, you will see a number using Pearl drums with nonstandard finishes. http://www.vicfirth.com/news/dci2003B.html http://www.vicfirth.com/news/dci2003C.html http://www.vicfirth.com/features/DCI2004E.html http://www.vicfirth.com/features/DCI2004F.html
  4. Of course, you know Gulf Coast Sound is always an option...
  5. Musicians Friend appears to have some. You will need to pay for expedited shipping. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product?sku=442949
  6. Of course you can... And we've got your back if someone doesn't like it!
  7. My corps (Gulf Coast Sound) and many marching bands use the MegaVox Pro PA system instead of the Long Ranger. It is battery powered like the Long Ranger but it costs less than half the price. Here's the link to a vendor: http://www.csnsupply.com/asp/show_detail.a...AN1062%5F183967
  8. I'm pretty certain that you can. These covers are made for "marching" drums, not drums that sit on stands.

  10. I knew there was something called drum and bugle corps but had never seen one. I didn't even know about DCI until I got to college. After finishing my marching band career in 1981, I settled into retirement until approximately late 2000 when my oldest daughter started high school. The band director and one of the assistant band directors were friends and bandmates of mine in college and wanted me to help out with the drumline. Being 20 years removed from the activity, I searched the city for someone to help me get back into playing shape. As a result of my search, I stumbled across Bayou City Blues Senior Drum & Bugle Corps here in Houston, TX. To my surprise, the corps had been under my nose (so to speak) all this time and I didn't realize it. Unfortunately, shortly after I joined, the corps became inactive. However, this new corps, Gulf Coast Sound, made up of former BCB members, was preparing to put a group on the field. And the rest is history. This will be our third year competing at the DCA Championships.
  11. Way Cool! Could he be a recruit when he ages out?
  12. GCS was so looking forward to competing in your show on July 15. Just know that when you turn things around, GCS will be there to support you 100%. See you in Rochester and on the field in 2007!
  13. Gulf Coast Sound (Houston,TX) is still in need to mallet percussionist for this year's roster. Our next camp is June 17th at our usual rehearsal site. Our first public performance will be at the Texas Drum Corps Preview in front of the State Capitol buiding in Austin, TX on June 24th. The sooner YOU get here the better. Get the details at http://www.gulfcoastsound.org
  14. Good to hear that Frontier is doing so well. Look forward to cheering for you in the Finals in Roc. Wouldn't it be great if two Texas corps made Finals? One in Open Class and one in Class A...
  15. This may have been stated before in the many pages of responses, but isn't it called "Drum and Bugle Corps?" If you added woodwinds, it would have to be called "marching band." In all honesty, woodwinds are not really outdoor instruments. Throughout history they have been used in close quarters or indoors.
  16. Time is running out. Don't miss this opportunity to make history!
  17. Finish those final exams and come on to the camp and the BBQ!
  18. One of the guys that marches with me in Gulf Coast Sound marched in a Chinese Junior Corps in California back in the early 70s. He has his junior corps patch (a circular patch about six inches across) on the right chest side of his GCS corps jacket. His GCS member and DCA competition patches are on his sleeves. He is the only one that I have seen do something like that.
  19. Don't wait too long and miss out on a wonderful opportunity to be a part of the 2006 edition of Gulf Coast Sound Drum & Bugle Corps of Houston, Texas. GCS is still looking for sopranos, drummers and pit people to fill out its 2006 roster. The corps needs about two or three more sops, one snare drummer, one bass drummer and two or more front ensemble members. The next camp is scheduled for May 6. GCS will also be featured at the Drum Corps Tigers BBQ Fundraiser this Saturday. Get all the details about GCS at http://www.gulfcoastsound.org. Details about the Drums Corps Tigers BBQ can be found at http://www.drumcorpstigers.com.
  20. Look forward to seeing you all in Austin for the Texas Drum Corps Preview. Good Luck with the season! ^OO^
