  1. OK, this was only my 2nd DCA trip and I must say that it was an amazing couple of days of drum corps. Kudos to all the corps on a job well done. I must say though I was surprised that the crowds seemed so subdued. There were so many great moments in so many of the shows that were screaming for people to leap out of their seats but very few did. Is this always the way at DCA? Was it because of the chilly weather, people didn't want to get up in the middle of the show? Just curious.
  2. Sort of off topic but I'm very curious as to all this Platinum news that has come out in the past couple of weeks. Didn't they not finish the 2010 tour because of money? I remember that being a rumor and then they posted on the DCI news that they would be in Dubuque and Michigan City and then nobody heard another word out of them.
  3. Because it's all about the kids, don't forget the kids!!!
  4. Umm....I answered your question, I wasn't stating that it would make Pioneer more money.
  5. No it is just another forum for people to argue about something on DCP, has nothing to do with who loves or doesn't love Pioneer......
  6. Yeah, I live in the midwest. And I really don't care what happens in the DCI world. So, I magically am in charge of Pioneer, they leave DCI and join DCA.
  7. There is no proof in that statement. Would your show fee's decrease, sure. But who says that you don't get more local donations and support by being able to go out to the community and claim you are a world champion in OC? The general public doesn't know the difference between OC & WC and frankly don't care. I would also assume your alumni might be more inclined to support a world champion over a 23rd place corps. There are positive things that come along with winning, no matter what division you are in.
  8. It would certainly make sense to revisit the schedule. I heard the crowd in Michigan City was very poor this year in comparison to the previous couple of years. I would guess that many people that may have gone to Michigan City in the past and then headed to Indy scrapped that plan this year since they knew they would see all the OC in Indy anyway. If the number or corps keeps dwindling the schedule will have to follow. If there are 12 corps it won't make sense to have 3 shows.
  9. Corps know for months what their shows are going to be. As much as I despise DCI, I will say it isn't their fault if SCV or anyone else doesn't have their show finished when they know they are going to be appearing at that show months in advance.
  10. If they don't want to do it then they don't join that particular corps, just as it is now. The members would know what they are getting into when they sign up, it isn't like they are all of a sudden going to say in July, oh we changed our mind and are only going to do the DCA weekend shows now.
  11. So having your corps fold and sitting at home all summer would be better? Besides, there are corps that still don't do a full tour, Gold, Impulse, Thunder just to name a few. Those members seem fine with it.
  12. OC can't support themselves if DCI says see ya, the money just isn't there. So given the choice, if the director said to their corps, we can either do the weekend only thing or fold the corps, I think a lot of the kids would say, lets do the weekend only thing.
  13. Because they are not getting the numbers they want. If the crowds were better they would have been out with a press release first thing Monday morning.
  14. I think this would be a great opportunity for DCA to expand. Racine Scouts & Legends could join the midwest circuit. There are several OC corps in California and the west coast, they could have their own circuit as well. Nobody said all corps would have to go to championships every year. Several Cali OC corps didn't go to DCI this year.
  15. I can see some of the non G-7 corps who think the WSOD will not work so they might vote to let them try it in 2011 just so that they can have proof it won't work and then it will be a dead issue in the future. Otherwise, this is just going to keep coming up again and again.
  16. Really? Have you polled them on this? When I marched I loved the regional tour first season and the natinal tour second season. No reason to think that today's kids might not enjoy that as well.
  17. Interesting, I thought the past couple years they always bragged they had large crowds in Michigan City for this show.
  18. So let me bring up a conspiracy there here. Lets say the G-7 feel so strongly about this new approach that they just know it won’t fail, it will be more successful than they ever imagined. So, in that respect they are going to keep trying to push the issue to the point where DCI forces them out on their own (which is what they want to happen). Then, 5 years from now when the G-7 are as strong as ever and DCI is closing it’s doors, the G-7 can’t be blamed for DCI’s demise because they can claim that they wanted to stay part of DCI but DCI kicked them out. Again, not my thoughts on what will happen, just what the G-7 might actually believe.
  19. Lets say that this proposal gets approval from the DCI member corps. What are the chances that these individual corps boards of directors will be on board? It isn't like all these corps have stashes of cash put away to support adding these new shows, equipment, props and whatever else. So, how will the boards take it when their director goes to them with their 2011 budget and it shows a large increase in operating costs without any guarantee of a pay off?
  20. I think it is more of a case of they need to be in the area so they can also take part in the major DCI show that is happening. You know, having your cake and eating it too.
  21. You couldn't be more wrong, I have nothing against any corps in DCA. We all know what they say about assuming.....
  22. Thanks for the reply and you are correct I had not heard that portion of 'Bangkok' before so that is why I didn't recognize it. I have nothing against MBI, guess after a couple of 2nd place finishes I was expecting to much. Actually a friend warned me about the pre-show amp stuff and it really didn't bother me. I look forward to seeing you again in Rochester and hope to have my mind changed about this years production.
  23. Well call me a hater if you want but if you weren't there you don't comment on their performance.
  24. I was very impressed with Govies and the Kilties but extremely disapointedin MBI. When you read the description of their show, you see all these great tunes listed. However when you hear the show you have to struggle to hear any melody, they have gone the route of the Blue Devils and just play notes. It was also a very sloppy performance. The horn players could not seem to carry themselves well at all. Not to mention all the issues the guard had with turbins or whatever they were supposed to be. From the second the show started many of them started to unravel. By the time the show ended at least half the guard no longer had them on. I would be shocked to see them higher than 4th maybe 5th this year.
