  3. Thanks for the review, Andrew. I hope my son reads this review. I was so proud of Capital Sound this weekend. They were prepared and professional. And they are SO young! I see big things for them this year! :D -Terri

  8. well let's see now ..... it all started 11 years ago when i got to pick my instrument i wanted to play .... i decided to pick clarinet , i think bc my friend was playing flut and we didnt want to play the same thing. i played the clarinet for two years and enjoyed every second of it, ,i loved playing music.... two y ears later i transferred to a new school and decided to pick up another instrument so i picked up the flute ... now i hadnt played it before and they stuck me rite in with the regular band , and u knwo what, i was pretty darned good! .... i stuck with that through middle school and through high school (playing first flute)even up until now even though i dont plauy anymore really ... one day after a football game in tenth grade , i approached the band director in her office and asked her if i could learn soemthing new ... she asked how would i like the french horn ( i think bc our lone horn player was graduating) and i was ecstatic .... well i think that was the best decision of my entire life ... i fell in love with it instantly ... so i begang learning french horn and mello and even went to NYSSMA (for those who know what that is) after only playing for two and half months .... i bought my first horn in 12th grade ... auditioned for several colleges on flute and french horn and got in on both isntrument , when i had to choose it really wasnt a hard decision , i had fallen so i love with the horn i couldnt possibly give it up .. so hear i am a performance/ed major on frencfh horn .... finally this year i got to do what i always wanted to do , i joined a drum corps ! , and i couldnt be any happier ... i'm a drum corps nuts! ...... anyways .... i also played alto sax (by default) when the pep band school couldnt find the honr parts so silly me said , hey why dont u jsut gimme an alto, since iw as reading off the alto parts, and thewy did .... i got the sax on a friday ntie and had to play at a game the next morning, but i did it!..... ok so basically , i havbe learned to play everything (saxes, calrinet, flute, trumpet, baritone, horn, etc..) so far except double reed , but im workin on that this ocming year , and i will h ave ocme full circle to learn everything ....... *phew* ok, now im done! ..... p.s. ur welcome mike ;)^ This is WAY cool. Look at all the concert horn players posting on here! WOO HOO!!!!!!! :D -Terri
  9. Heh, that french horn was a b#### to carry back and forth to school. I was in fourth grade and that student single horn case was bigger than me. That was almost 37 years ago believe it or not. My teacher tried to discourage my folks into putting me on cornet because altho I'm a pretty tall person now, I was tiny with really small hands back then. He told my Dad my hands were too small to handle the horn. Dad said, well, my little girl wants to play the french horn so she will. My biggest supporter, God rest his soul......... Made alot of sacrifices for me to take private instruction for years. I still play my horn. It's a real grounding device, if you know what I mean and I think you do. -Terri :)
  10. Poodle, Old people can't read that yellow font. Especially old, nearsighted folks like me. :D -Terri
  11. Me, too. I like the d### thing. Small rim, deep cup..... if you're gonna switch from a frenchie MP, that's the one to go to, IMHO. -Terri
  12. Well, I stopped in Marshall on my way to Madison from Racine(from my camp). Scouts were on break but I got to visit with my friends Allan Z. (number 3 bass) and Mark V. (snare). Good Luck to you both if you see this and I will see you in Menasha. I was sorry I didn't get to see the corps rehearse. I drove on to Madison to LaFollette HS to pick up my son from Cap Sound camp. Got to see their rehearsal and run thru. Ahhhhhhhh. What can I say? This is the best Cap Sound I've seen. And I've been a fan since '95. The show is just great. I think I have the ability to be impartial (I did NOT like Cap Sound's '99 show and my son WAS a marching member) but this show is one of the best I've heard and seen in a long time. The second piece, "Curious Carnival" is classic. And they are performing it quite well Memorial day weekend. Lots of tempo acceleration from being to end. Not EASY. A fine job of brass arrangement. A tip of the hat to you. And the rack in drum solo........ well, I can't WAIT until that is complete!!!!!!! And the ballad is so sweet...... that is gonna make me cry. JMHO, as always. Go Cap Sound! -Terri
  13. I wouldn't leave out Bob, but Pooh doesn't know Kathy or Beth!!! I hope Al comes back next year! -Terri
  14. Oh good Heavens Pooh!!!!!!! Let's not forget our Rick Hoefert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Awesome mello player and Plenty loud. -Terri
  15. Yeah! Go Larry, Bill R. and Sobacki. (I always call him Sobacki, hehe!) -Terri Oh Gawd, I left off Mitchell!!!!!!!!!! Go Dave! You rule, dude!!!!!!!! My bad!! -Terri
  16. Yeah! Go Larry, Bill R. and Sobacki. (I always call him Sobacki, hehe!) -Terri
  17. Bonnie Ott: My personal idol in the '70's. She ruled for me. -Terri
  18. Ding, ding, ding!!!!!!! Greg wins! I agree wholeheartedly. -Terri
  19. I love ya, Pooh! I wish I could generate more volume. :-) -Terri
  20. ....and with that money we can buy more beers - LOL. I just got back from RA rehersal this weekend - things are going just fine. I broke out the 2v King to see if there was any difference in sound - I think there are some leaks in that old horn. It still plays well - tribute to Ziggy. I still prefer my 3v Kanstul. Frank - I think I still have a 12C laying around somewhere. I will use that piece - but ya got to let me play a double C (doube F for Louis and bflaters). The summer is just around the corner - I can't wait. :D Good luck and vibes to all the corps. Accentuate the positive. My kanstul 3-valve frenchie was supremely superior to the mello I'm playing on now...... (that shall remain nameless) the valve response on this horn I'm playing on now, even after it's been worked on, just sucks compared to that kanstul. -Terri (kanstul fan)
  21. Star or Cadets. But the last two years of Cadets have sold me on their lines. Just listen to the beginning of their show in 2001. I listen to that ALL THE TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -Terri
  22. I think I've suffered moderate hearing loss. I am not sure what it is from but I suspect it's from being around lots of drumlines in enclosed areas. Or my stereo headphones. I don't think it's from my horn or bugle at all. -Terri
  23. Since we're making requests, can any Wisconsonites pack a few Spotted Cows. Had a few at the Brat Haus on the main drag in Madison a few years ago (either on University Ave or W Gilman or W Gorham. It's been a while). ]:-) I'll bring some spotted cow. No more Brat Haus on Regent. It's now the Oakcrest Tavern but it's still a cool place. -Terri Thank you so much. I'll try to pack a six of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. http://www.sierra-nevada.com/html/beers/cooler.htm ]:-) I've had Sierra Nevada pale ale before. good stuff. Can't remember where though. Must have really been good stuff. :D -Terri
  24. I'll say Madison Scouts/Southwind/Capital Sound. I see it as an action on principal. I have mixed feelings about it, as I see it as a noble cause but I worry for the marching members involved. -Terri
