  1. Ummm, you sure that was Sandy? She was not around the band in 1977. Have I mis-read this thread and you are talking about the same trip, but a different year? Corkie Big Brown Music Machine Flag Corps Member, Fall 1977 Recruited by Tim Benge Survivor of the BBMM trip to BYU (& Las Vegas)
  2. Madison, 27th, & Blue Stars also came out here in the 70's.
  3. Would you all have the same view point on this issue if the OP had said if the "trash talkers" were members of a local high school band?
  4. Blue Stars. Motivated kids & talented staff! And because they are loud. I like loud.
  5. With fewer corps (meaning fewer spots) I would think that it would be more difficult for a young'un to get a spot in a Div 1 corps these days than it was in the 70's & 80's.
  6. Byhalia, Ohio Worst Showers EVER (in my 16 summers on tour).
  7. We had a guard member get really sick on tour. She was taken to the ER in Arkansas, and that's how I remember the health officials finding out about the measles. State health officials vaccinated the corps members & staffs after the Arkansas show... as a guard instructor for 83 Sky Ryders, I was one of them. Something about not allowing any corps to leave the show until everyone got the shot... ? I also remember getting lots of grief that night from the other staffs (especially from friends marching & teaching Pride of Cincinnatti). I remember during retreat all the staff members going inside the school library to get their shots. We all came out showing off our boo boo bandaids to the kids on the field. I think the knowledge that they were next was worse on the kids than the actual shots. :P
  8. "H" is for the H in Heifer Hauler, "E" is for the E in Heifer Hauler, "I" is for the I in Heifer Hauler... <ad nauseum> "C'mon Heifers big & wide, let's all hear that Heifer cry.... MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" I was on that bus. BTW, the only corps that thought the guard needed to lose weight was our own. We seemed to get LOTS of attention (in our shorts & boots) from plenty of other corps... dog hunts, anyone?
  9. I heart Arwen, yes I do. I heart Arwen, how 'bout you? Arwen is a hottie. She more than makes up for Often Questionable Looking Hair guy. :) Dude!
  10. Don't you know he has this... this... this... THING about his hair? Be careful if you talk about his hair- you'll freak him out! He'll run for a mirror and the opener will never get taught! :P (that's for you vkeson)!
  11. I hear they have a good looking marching staff...
  12. You are an olde pharte if you can't remember the Free Day in Montreal. B)
  13. Baritone. Last season he marched out here with Impulse. His dad I and both felt that he should march with his hometown corps, and Columbus was the closest. His dad, BTW, is playing baritone tonight with the Madison alumni.
  14. I think the Chinese food just came out of Billy's nose... Tell Jack Emory was at the theater last night too.
  15. MARK!!! How the heck are you? I'm doing just fine, thank you. It's good to be home (I grew up out here). Keeping busy doing a lot of teaching and judging. I'm dying here though- my 17 year old is marching this summer and I haven't been able to see him perform live. Thank goodness for Season Pass. There was a good shot of him today. I know he has loved his summer!
  16. I am interested in where the corps will stay... I know it's tough for the local groups to find rehearsal facilities. In case you didn't get an update, both theaters in Irvine were packed last night. Quite a few VK alums in attendance in our theater. Tell Nalls that a certain contra player/instructor we both know well (me better than you, I hope ) says hi.
  17. YAY for the Madison Alumni! BTW, current Pasadena weather is 86 degrees & clear with 39% humidity.
  18. Thought it had to be the same Meg. We haven't met. Our kids sit next to each other on the bus. Mine plays 2nd bari.
  19. Proud Mom of Capital Regiment Lead Baritone 2006. GO MEG! Hey Meg's mom, By any chance, are you from Texas?
  20. My techno geek hubby brought home a projector from work. Hooked it up to my PC and I have 4ft high drum corps on my wall! b**bs I was even able to pick out my kid on the field! How cool is that from two time zones away from the show? Thank you DCI! Absolutely worth the price for the Season Pass. Now... we just need to do something about the sound system. My computer speakers aren't producing enough sound to annoy the neighbors ^0^
  21. I find it interesting that it is being assumed the VK will be a corps with a "fun" show. Aside from Spam, no director or teaching staff has been announced yet. I have not seen any program style announcements from the corps either...
  22. If I wasn't teaching the Caballaros guard that year, I probably wouldn't have known the difference either. It was good to see photos of both corps. Thank you for posting them! BTW, in the Caballaro photo that shows the contras, the contra player to the right of the 50 went on to march with SCV in 83. He ended up winning contra individuals that year in Miami... Corkie Buckeye State/Cleveland Caballaros staff 80-82 (as well as a lot of other marching and teaching gigs through the years)
