  1. Randy Nelson is the director for programing and creative design.
  2. So the Academy thing has been done to death. Lets spin it with another corps, lets say the Cadets perhaps (take it east, lol). The cadets decide it would be in their best interest to stay in the notheast for most of the season and attend finals. No big deal right ( remember we are using a hypothetical situation) so Allentown roles around (and all the Div. 1 corps are in attendance). In 1st place we have The Cadets. In second place we have BD. How many people would aruge the fairness of the outcome. Would people say " well it must be easy for them, they never left the area and got to practice more" or "BD traveld across the country and had far less time to practice" . Remember this is a hypothetical situation, I would just like to see how people would react to the situation with two top 3 corps fighting for the championship, rather than two corps fighting for finals. P.S. Love both Cadets and BD, best of luck in this hypothetical situation!!
  3. The same can be said for spirit in 2004. The corps scored an 86.3 semis and missed final by .075, which i think makes it the highest scoring 13th place show, but i am not sure. Finals night glassmen scored an 85.95. Spirit ended the season with a higher score than glassmen, but it was on a different night. Glassmen were 12th in 2004, Spirit was 13th.
  4. From the Spirit website. Spirit is pleased to announce Kevin Nix as Visual Coordinator for the 2008 season. Kevin's work has been well known and respected in the world of visual art for years and will be an outstanding addition to the Spirit staff. "Kevin brings a very high level of creativity to Spirit," states Randy Nelson, Director for Programming and Creative Design. Nix is currently the Visual Coordinator at Westfield High School in Houston, Texas. Before his appointment at Westfield, Kevin served as Associate Director of Bands and Visual Coordinator at Ronald Reagan High School in San Antonio, Texas for seven years. He has sixteen years of public school experience. Kevin received his Bachelor of Arts in Music Education with a minor in Trumpet Studies from the Univeristy of Oklahoma. He is an adjudicator for Bands of America and Drum Corps International.
  5. So it looks like the staff for spirit is shapeing up to be pretty nice. Scott Boerma, Freddy Martin (horns) Shane Gwaltney(sp) (percussion) Robbie and Jill (guard) and im sure lots more to announce!!! b**bs
  6. I like this show so much because, to me, it really put emotion back into a drum corps show, they laid their hearts on the field!! Although it was not executed as well as it could be the pure emotion makes it great... but thats just my opinion.
  7. I think what he means is that the visual package of the show may not have been as demanding as shows of today. I have no clue though, i love that show, one of my favs. I would take it as a compliment, knowing that phantom prefomed the show so well they made a really difficult show look and sound easy.
  8. So what if all the political stuff was cut out( not saying it should be, im just sayin) how do you think the fans would feel toward the description of the second movement. The second section of the show offers a glimpse of challenge and strife, perhaps paralleling man’s treatment of the planet, leading to our own potential destruction. Imogen Heap's “Hide and Seek" will set the mood as the corps reflects the challenges that threaten life as we know it. Evolution in the face of conflict is represented by "Turning" written by John Mackey and "Blue Motion" by Whibley. How is that?
  9. this topic truley depends on what kind of atmosphere ur looking for while in college. I go to JSu and love it here, i love the marching band and the perople here truley represent the freindliest campus in the south. I have seen the programs at UN, TSU, UA, and Montevallo and i have to say that none of them would be a bad choice. They all have great programs! Coosing a college is interly based on the person. I would suggest that u visit the colleges u are considering and see if u like the location and the atmosphere. WE would love to have u here at JSU but it is up to u were u choose, i am sure u will have a great experince in college where ever u choose. Life is what u make it and ur college life is no different!! :) Happy hunting!
  10. 1. Phantom (momentum finaly pushes them to another title) 2. Cadets (never understimate the Cadets) after their 4th place finish in 04 look where they were in 05, those kids are out to prove something. b**bs 3. Cavies ( could be higher, but more than likely wont win) 4. BD ( Not the best BD show, but still very good) 5. SCV ( right were they need to be, coming back strong) 6. Bluecoats ( great corps, great show) 7. Crown ( very good brass, and better drum line) 8. Boston ( strong showing from BAC) 9. Blue knights ( Good show, not as clean as it needs to be) 10. Spirit ( makeing a move) B) 11. Madison ( hopefully they'll do better, but there still the scouts and have a great show) 12. Glassmen( same ole, same ole)/Colts( Its about time they get in on saturday night again)
  11. Spirit 16th place, now come on, honestly, i mean the drill is a little dirty but ya gotta give that brass line somethin! Although it is your God givin right to have an opinion, i will disagree.
  12. My vote goes to spirit, i think if they can get the visual stuff taken care of then they will be fighting for 11th or 10th, if not then 12th, i really dont see anyone passing them, not saying it couldnt happen. id put them 9th or 10th in horns but 13th or 14th in visual. but we will see come august.
  13. 1. First show i ever saw, other than the cavilers from the same year. 2. Drill 3. Music 4. The girl at the end before the company front that hits her chest twice and then kisses her hand, it is kinda like she is saying goodbye and thank you to the activity, or at least that is how i took it. 5. emotion from the entire corp. 6. It just a great show

I wouldnt pay for food I dont like to eat nor would I pay for an activity, or support it of I dont believe its entertaining to me. The more DCI wants to run drum corps as a business, the more a business attitude should prevail...dont like product, dont support it. I respond: I did not mean financaly, if i meant that i would have put it, and if you dont want to support that activity that is fine, you are your own person, but if so why do you post on a board about drum corps if you dont like it. Just my opinion, thanks for your time And by the way i do agree with those who say speak up if you dont like what is happening, well the fact is that if you dont like something you either deal with it or you dont do it because in drum corps there is always someone they can find to take your spot.
  15. I agree that the activity is heading more in the marching band direction but what most people dont care to take the time to understand is that most people that march the activity now a days, including myself, do NOT want it to head to marching band. If they wanted to march in a marching band they would have. For me it is extremly discouraging to see people degrade the activity because of the way it is today. We as marchers, well most of use, can not do anything about the way the drum corps world progresses and i think it is wrong to not support a corps because they use amps or sing or something of that nature. Do you honestly think that most members wanted it to head to this. But although they may not have wanted it they still worked the butts off just like corps of later years did. So you should support the kids that march and the hard work they put into the activity to keep it alive. Just my opinion.
