  1. OMG...What a camp!! Phenominal!! Playing in this hornline is what keeps this grandmama in drum corps. Get ready, DCA.......................... Phenominal............................that's all I can say!!
  2. Welcome back, Tom!! We missed you! The Nashville show is going to be awesome this year. Hope you can come on down for a visit...................and you're always welcome at Chez Ford!
  3. Thanks for the review, Patrick!! It was great seeing you...............only wish I had time to really visit with you. Thanks for running some errands for me!!
  4. Hey Stacy, All the corps have rehearsal sites at or around the Beech campus. Come enjoy the day with us!
  5. Thanks, Dale! Appreciate your additional input. MCL doesn't put much stock in placements. We were glad that we raised our scores by 6 points from the previous week. We place our stock in our performance. It was a great day (weather wise) and we all enjoyed the rehearsal time as well as the performance. As far as the ending of our show..............well, it would be nice if everyone else could experience it before knowing what happens, but sooner or later I'm sure it will be figured out. We still have a lot to add to the show. This show is fun and we are having a blast with it. As for your comments on the mellophones.................HA! All year I have either been told "Mellophones, I can't hear you!" or "Laurie, tone it down.....you're sticking out!" Looks like we've still got some blending work to do!! Thanks for your comments. Good luck to you and enjoy those babies!!
  6. Ha! It seems that no matter where we perform, there is never a review of our show!! When I saw that Dale Bari had posted a review, I got excited! Finally.....a review and by someone who is always so "well-versed"!! Then, just our luck that the babies got restless. Oh well......as a grandmama I completely understand!!! Thanks for the kind words. I hope we have the opportunity to perform for you again. B)
  7. Uummm.....let me guess..... Maytag? Kitchenaid? Frigidaire?
  8. Thanks! We feel honored to have been asked to play the National Anthem in Murfreesboro. Finally, we're getting some positive recognition from DCI. We're also looking forward to our trek to VA in a couple of weeks!!
  9. You know, there is something about any MCL thread. They must be completely invisible. They always die after 2 posts. Where's the love???????
  10. Looking forward to seeing you in Nashville, Fran!!
  11. Nashville may be known for it's "Country" music, but Nashville also has rich traditions in all types of music. Music City Legend is proud to be from Nashville, but please don't think that we are a "Country" corps. We are definitely not. (I live only 1 mile from the Grand Ole Opry.................I have never attended in my entire life!! Give me the Nashville Symphony or any of the other music venues downtown any day!!!!) We are excited about hosting our first ever DCA show this summer. Music City Metal is shaping up to be an event you don't want to miss!!
  12. Can't wait to be there! Lovin' the music!!!!
  13. :( I can't see or hear anything.......... :(
  14. As a member of MCL, I want to say Thank You to Shenendoah Sound for putting on a classy show. I know they had their own obstacles they had to deal with to pull this show off. When we arrived early Saturday morning, there seemed to be some confusion in where our rehearsal site was, but they worked it all out for us. Our corps bus had been delayed quite a while due to traffic on the Beltway and our 10:00 rehearsal didn't get started until 12:30. However, those of us who traveled ahead of the corps were able to get the field marked off and have the truck unloaded by then. Thanks, Shenendoah for working that out for us. Also, thanks so much for the very much needed water that you provided before we went on the field (the first time!!). Also, I want to send out a big Thank You to the Hurricanes who also provided some much needed water to us as we were waiting to enter the field. You guys came to the rescue...........I hope we can return that favor to you some day!! On a personal note, although the weather was horrible, I truly enjoyed the show. I didn't drive up for 13+ hours the day before for nothing. Our son and daughter-in-law made the drive with us to watch the show and to spend a few days in D.C. We sat and watched every corps (with the exception of Shenendoah and Mon Valley because we were preparing for our performance) and thoroughly enjoyed the show.....rain and all. It was an honor to perform for such a dedicated crowd that withstood the weather as well......and even more of an honor to share the field with Sky, Sun, Hurcs, and of course, our Southern brothers and sisters, CV. You are all class acts. To Mon Valley......I was very surprised when I heard you guys were performing in exhibition only. Now that I've heard the whole story all I can say is your dedication and perserverence is exceptional. I look forward to your continued success and seeing you in competition next time! Thanks, again, Shenendoah. The show was a success. I hope that it worked out financially for you, as well.
  15. Ooh! Hubby & wife duet.........I like that idea!! I've had a solo for the last 3 years (including this year), and Hef was in a quintet last year, but we haven't had the opportunity to shine together. Oh Jim.............are you listening??? A Contra and Sop duet........nice idea for next year!!!
  16. "Go tell Grandma to get me a safety pin for this cumberbun......this ones gettin' ready to blow!"
  17. Actually, the Rockmart show is the DCA South Championship this year. According to the new DCA South decisions, the DCA South Championship will rotate each year between various DCAS member cities. The 2007 Championship will be hosted by MCL in Nashville. Is there a show that is designated as a DCA Central Championship? It would be difficult to have a DCA Northeast Championship without a DCA NE organization. Having various Regional champions is an interesting concept..........
  18. According to the White Sabers website, they are Class A this year.
  19. Music City Legend has already announced that they are Open Class this year! B)
  20. Actually, Stephan, Madison is just a suburb of Metropolitan Nashville. 100% of Davidson County is considered Metropolitan Nashville, so technically you could say that MCL does rehearse in the Music City!
  21. Scott and I are fine. We didn't really have much here......just some hail and rain. Most of the damage is about 20 miles north of us. One of our sop players was at Volunteer State Community College when it was hit today. Half of the school is leveled and his car is destroyed. But, he is fine and is planning to be at our camp tomorrow. We have a couple of members who live north of here and I haven't heard from them yet. Thanks for your prayers!!
  22. Pardon my ignorance as I am rather new to the DCA arena, but from what I have experienced over the last two years is that although both classes of DCA corps are scored from the same sheets, the Class A corps always score much lower. They always go on first, and it appears to me that the judges are being quite conservative on the scoring because they know the "bigger and better" corps are still to come, so they are leaving room for the scores to increase. This is not a slam against judging at all.........just an observation. I have been involved in many high school band competitions and also see the same type of things happening......it's just human nature. I just bring this up because of all of the conversation about the top scoring corps being in finals regardless of class. I think that in a perfect world, the top scoring corps should be in finals regardless of their class. But, unfortunately, it is not a perfect world because there is a stigma that resides with the Class A corps.......that they are not going to quite live up to the Open Class corps. Therefore, I agree with the ruling of having a designated number from each class be in finals. It would be nice if they just took a percentage from each class. If there were 12 Open class corps in finals out of a total of 16, then 75% of the Open Class corps were in finals. Why not give the smaller guys the same chance to perform for the evening crowd? That means that if 75% of the Class A corps were to go into finals, then there would have been 7 corps in finals. True.....finals would have to start much earlier.....but it only seems fair. I'm not b****ing, just expressing my opinion like others have. I've had a blast in Scranton for the past two years, and can't wait for Rochester!! Maybe I'll even get a chance to perform under those lights this year!
  23. Well.......I wasn't contacted about this either. He must have contacted Regi. But.......(singing) I know who the culprit is!!!! (singing off) I know that he responded tonight, though!!
  24. Can I please be an orange dot, Mr. Reed??? Please, please, please??????
  25. OK....I'll bite.... I don't have years of experience in drum corps, so my perspective may be from a different view. I have been interested in corps all my life and attended many DCI shows over the years, been heavily involved with my kids' very competitive H.S. band program, and continued playing my horn all these years in various other programs, but had never even heard of DCA or Sr. Corps. I didn't have any idea that it existed. But, one day a friend of mine called me about joining up with a new corps that was starting up in town. At first, I laughed at him. But, after I thought about it awhile, I decided to check it out. I got involved in the formation of the corps from the very beginning, and met some of the most wonderful people. That year we only formed a mini-corps and did a few exhibitions and went to Mini-Corps in Scranton. What a blast!! Playing with a horn-line where 100% of the players are playing from the heart!!! I was hooked........had to do it again........couldn't wait 'til the next year when we would actually compete on the field! Of course, meeting the most awesome guy in the corps, falling in love, and getting married helped a lot, too!! The next year, the corps more than tripled in size, we put good music with good drill, 100% of the players playing from the heart, and phenomenal experiences!! I love the music rehearsals, setting drill, and the adrenaline rush from the performances..........gotta have it........addicted...........but, I HATE the heat!! In Scranton, the rush that came from performing in prelims was the best ever!!! It could have been 125 degrees out there......I would have done again right then! But, we missed finals by just a fraction.......but it's OK.......we played from the heart!!! The next day we gave a parking lot concert for our Southern Corps brothers and sisters that was an even better experience than prelims. You could just feel it...........all the players and all the crowd............it was there.........that feeling that you don't get from anything else in the world. I'm hooked........addicted.......gotta have it............ So, I guess to sum it up.........the pride of being in a new corps, watching it startup and grow and succeed.....the overwhelming rush from performing. That's why I do this thing called drum corps.
