This goes for a lot of people, a lot of corps... where I've marched previously (and it's been a few places), they go over this once, if ever: STAY OFF THE BOARDS. And if you can't, then at least have decency for the corps to not smatter their name all over YOUR opinion.

I might just be imagining more than there really were, but it seemed like this was a big year for guard unis to compliment the corps proper really well. The designers did a great job of taking a color theme and making something great out of it. My favorites were Phantom, Crossmen, and Crown.

I can't really confirm or deny this, other than say that I imagine they'd have a ton of support if they passed evaluation to move up. Good luck in Madison, Surf!

How about how colorguards are stacking up?

I wasn't offended by the idea that some people aren't over-the-top thrilled to see guys in tight spandex, but how it was stated and approached. I have never really directly equated spandex to homosexuality, or watching a colorguard outfitted as such as "overly homosexual. And "shoving homosexuality down the audiences throats?" I'm pretty sure I've NEVER seen this. I've never seen a "ballad" revolving around two men on the football field, especially to the point of exchanging kisses on the 50. So... for those who DO see these lines? To me, they need to "get over it."

I suppose I might just be kind of blind to it from just seeing it all the time. But I guess I'm just used to thinking that guard uniforms in general aren't something you're used to seeing in public. I'm not so much offended by the idea - I DO know that designers have some outlandish ideas more often than not - so much as the sheer language of what he was saying.

I know what you mean, but it was a one-shoulder shirt. A black shirt. With some colored lines on it. Effeminate? Yeah, okay, but really; was it that visually offensive? I really just thought "eh, bad choice on a top for them."

Yeah - uh, kinda offended over here. Not to be the PC Police or anything, but was that really neccessary? I know in a lot of ways, a lot of guard costumes are a little over-the-top, but what's an example (other than Cavies '03, I see that a lot and pretty much understand) of a uniform to that level, so I have some perspective on what you mean? And in response to everyone who always talks about the "dad's who see their sons in those uniforms," I think they're okay with it. I may stand corrected, but I've never heard anything about anyone's parents being disgusted or ashamed over the Cavaliers' uniforms. Their sons are in colorguard, they love to dance and twirl. My guess? They're over it.

If you want to see a "musical" guard as you mean it, check out Crown 03 when they had bells in their rifles. ... Again - go Crown for being an exceptionally musical (and consistant!) colorguard. :)

While I don't necessarilly agree with your opinion regarding having the same staff for the vocalist and hornline, I get what you mean. As an instrumentalist, I alwaysalwaysalways portray my playing as though I am singing through my clarinet. While people might say that there's different staff for colorguard, percussion, etc.; brass and voice both have a lot of middle ground. I'm pretty sure all battery people know SOMETHING about front ensemble instruments & auxiliary, I'm pretty sure all colorguard staff know SOMETHING regarding every piece of equipment, etc. ... To be honest, I just want them to have someone great so that they max it out as much as possible.

I guess one could consider it cheating, but I don't know... to me, it's another staff member for another element of the program. If the vocalist is a component to the show, it seems fitting to me that they'd want someone as credible and qualified as possible to assist the vocalist.
