  1. This goes for a lot of people, a lot of corps... where I've marched previously (and it's been a few places), they go over this once, if ever: STAY OFF THE BOARDS. And if you can't, then at least have decency for the corps to not smatter their name all over YOUR opinion.
  2. I might just be imagining more than there really were, but it seemed like this was a big year for guard unis to compliment the corps proper really well. The designers did a great job of taking a color theme and making something great out of it. My favorites were Phantom, Crossmen, and Crown.
  3. I can't really confirm or deny this, other than say that I imagine they'd have a ton of support if they passed evaluation to move up. Good luck in Madison, Surf!
  4. Unless I am mistaken, that - like many of his blog posts - was an e-mail he recieved. Also an excerpt from that same entry: Anyways, your shows the past 2 years have made me think. And I have been trying to come up with a show that could continue to push in the direction that you are going. So here it is: Enjoy!
  5. Dilky told me about that. I'm really sorry to hear it - I hope it heals alright (I don't know JACK about ligaments or anything). I hope itt's well enough that we can see you on the field again next year. Am I gonna see you at the Bensalem show? Tommy
  6. I wasn't offended by the idea that some people aren't over-the-top thrilled to see guys in tight spandex, but how it was stated and approached. I have never really directly equated spandex to homosexuality, or watching a colorguard outfitted as such as "overly homosexual. And "shoving homosexuality down the audiences throats?" I'm pretty sure I've NEVER seen this. I've never seen a "ballad" revolving around two men on the football field, especially to the point of exchanging kisses on the 50. So... for those who DO see these lines? To me, they need to "get over it."
  7. I suppose I might just be kind of blind to it from just seeing it all the time. But I guess I'm just used to thinking that guard uniforms in general aren't something you're used to seeing in public. I'm not so much offended by the idea - I DO know that designers have some outlandish ideas more often than not - so much as the sheer language of what he was saying.
  8. I know what you mean, but it was a one-shoulder shirt. A black shirt. With some colored lines on it. Effeminate? Yeah, okay, but really; was it that visually offensive? I really just thought "eh, bad choice on a top for them."
  9. Yeah - uh, kinda offended over here. Not to be the PC Police or anything, but was that really neccessary? I know in a lot of ways, a lot of guard costumes are a little over-the-top, but what's an example (other than Cavies '03, I see that a lot and pretty much understand) of a uniform to that level, so I have some perspective on what you mean? And in response to everyone who always talks about the "dad's who see their sons in those uniforms," I think they're okay with it. I may stand corrected, but I've never heard anything about anyone's parents being disgusted or ashamed over the Cavaliers' uniforms. Their sons are in colorguard, they love to dance and twirl. My guess? They're over it.
  10. If you want to see a "musical" guard as you mean it, check out Crown 03 when they had bells in their rifles. ... Again - go Crown for being an exceptionally musical (and consistant!) colorguard. :)
  11. Don't get offensive, please. Discussion and badgering are different.
  12. While I don't necessarilly agree with your opinion regarding having the same staff for the vocalist and hornline, I get what you mean. As an instrumentalist, I alwaysalwaysalways portray my playing as though I am singing through my clarinet. While people might say that there's different staff for colorguard, percussion, etc.; brass and voice both have a lot of middle ground. I'm pretty sure all battery people know SOMETHING about front ensemble instruments & auxiliary, I'm pretty sure all colorguard staff know SOMETHING regarding every piece of equipment, etc. ... To be honest, I just want them to have someone great so that they max it out as much as possible.
  13. I guess one could consider it cheating, but I don't know... to me, it's another staff member for another element of the program. If the vocalist is a component to the show, it seems fitting to me that they'd want someone as credible and qualified as possible to assist the vocalist.
  14. You'll only know if you go. No use in getting twisted about it until you make the leap to go for it. And then, if you make it, you'll most likely figure it out. Most people have entire lives to balance, but that is also a part of the experience -- how to handle multiple responsibilities in life. Go for it and good luck.
  15. I didn't get to see Oregon's show (or anyone's beside ours, to be honest), but our colorguard was lined up next to their's before going on for retreat at Grand Super Uber Mecca Championships, and they were a fun bunch. Obviously, we weren't going too insane right there out of the gate, but we swapped stories and they were all very much cool.
  16. The website seemed to pretty much say that they are looking to fill male positions in a specific capacity; much like last year's male character. I'm sure this isn't the demise of Phantom Regiment's all-female colorguard, just maybe something they may delve into on occassion: getting males to play certain roles. Just like last year's production, I'm sure we can look forward to something tasteful, well thought-out, and (as always) a giant crown pleaser. I look forward to Phantom's shows every year, and this year is no exception.
  17. I've worked it out, thankfully (or at least until another wrench gets thrown in my path)! Who would have thought it'd be so complicated to get from Reading to Pennsville? To think I marched two seasons even further away... how peculiar. Thanks for all of your suggestions; hopefully everything will work out as planned.
  18. I was wondering if anyone on here is attending the YEA! camp this weekend, and if so, if you are passing through Reading, PA on your way there. I realize it's a long shot, but my ride just backed out this morning, and I figured it's worth a shot asking.
  19. Wow, someone from Reinholds on here? Who'd have thought? I guess I should figure, with Buccs being right down the road. It's a shame I missed your "VANGUARD!" I had just moved in for tour SCV's first day in at CW (but I helped set-up that morning anyway; what a way to start tour).
  20. Funny that you mention that! They really showed opposing forces in the ballad, because towards the end, the was a snare part that was represented visually by two boys on rifle standing stock-still and doing a very mechanical, regiment spin (that I couldn't even identify) while being surrounded by the rest of the movement-oriented colorguard. In the past, when I thought of the Cadets colorguard, I always thought of flag. They've proven to know how to spin flag VERY well and usually have quite a book. But this year they really made me think of a dancing guard.
  21. Oh wow, good luck guys! I'm from the Reading area (Robesonia, you've never heard of it), and I'm so happy to see another PA junior corps out there, especially after we lost LVK last season.
