  1. Capital Sound has gotten smaller since winter camps when we had around 40, but a lot of members left before the season so now they are in the 30-33 range.
  2. HAHAHA, that was my girlfriend. Yeah same announcer...but apparently I missed her post. hmmmm...she has a better memory than I do, so I will take her word that it was after blue stars.
  3. Let me start off by saying that I marched 4 years of drum corps 1 year in Decorah Kilties 3 years in Capital Sound I made a trip to Cedarburg Wisconsin to see a show with Capital Sound in it over my Birthday on July 3rd and I heard one of the most ridiculous statements made that I have ever heard DURING a drum corps show. After all the div 2 and 3s performed Pioneer performed their show. As Pioneer was walking off the field they were getting a moderate ovation. To apparently psych the crowd up the announcer said...and this is a direct quote, I have witnesses. "C'mon folks, this is what drum corps is all about....Division 1." My girlfriend (who marched since 99 in Bandettes and last year in Capital Sound) were stunned to hear that statement. I know the guy probably didnt mean really anything by it, and he defenitely didnt mean to hurt the kids feelings....but man...that hurt a bit. In my opinion I feel that the heart and soul or drum corps is not in the 21 year old marching his second year of blue devils, it is in the heart of a 16 year old marching CS, or any of the other wonderful division 2 and 3 corps out there. Those are just my thoughts...Now what are yours?
  4. yeah they went together for a year and Created THE drum corps midwest championship or something like that. They brought in a whole bunch of east coast div 1 corps for the first night and had a the DCM contest the second night. Apparently nothing came out of it because after that year all the div 1s except pio left and DCM defenitely is nothing like it was in 2002, my first year of corps. I long for those 2002 days, that was fun
  5. that was a more general comment...It was not completely aimed at you. my apologies
  6. They set off fireworks at opening ceremonies in 2002. How do I remember...? I was standing next to the Bluecoats on the field. Everytime a blue firework went off, what did I hear? BLUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUE
  7. the objective of Stealth is to come out of nowhere. The drum corps planet community is not entitled to have every single bit of information about a corps...usually because the DCP community will either judge corps by numbers or something like that. If corps want you to know something, they will tell you. Unless you decide to show up to a camp or try to get info out of members or by hearsay that is all you are going to get. in short..my point Take the information that corps give you...and don't blast them if they don't give you anything.
  8. it is in the process of being fixed. Give it some time and enjoy the german lesson all together now.. DATEI NICHT GEFUNDEN!!!!!
  9. what does the Madison Scouts horn contract have to do with Capital Sound. If you want to know that just bring it up on the div. 1 forum. If you actually want to talk about CS we would be happy to talk about you, but if you want to bring up our former relations with the scouts that is very old news that was hashed out 3 years ago. As a corps we are moving on from those days and continuing to be a very strong and resiliant corps. Word of mouth recruiting may not be the best thing ever but so far it is doing the trick. By word of mouth alone (not even word of mouth, more word of fingers because I talked to all through the internet) I brought 5 more drummers to the last camp. What we are doing is working for us. Have a nice day Lee
  10. I'm sorry optomism about placement got you in a twist... yes we are more in it for fun. but that doesnt mean we dont care at all... its called being human.
  11. this is true...but deceptively true. A lot of kids had conflicts... (alot meaning we are easily over 30...so no worries) We had no brass staff at camp, that doesnt mean we dont have a brass staff. For that matter we have a full staff this year, including techs for all parts of the drumline (which we didnt have last year). Our numbers were down at last camp. But they will be back up and we will be fine. Since the camp I have personally talked to 10 possible recruits and for the first time in my drum corps career I am going to be driving up to madison with a full car load of potential members. Our staff has music picked (no we havnt announced it yet) and this year is looking to be a great year. what I have to say on your post is... If the members of Capital Sound or the staff want to make an announcement on our numbers or anything they will....we don't need a third party (who didnt know all the facts...be honest, you didnt) to announce anything for us. Peace love and drum corps Lee
  12. ummmm...I have to root for CS because I am in it..stock but, I really would like to see pride, allegiance, and dutch boy do well what can I say, my girlfriend is canadian and its getting to my system haha
  13. Hey, everybody. We are recruiting pretty heavily and will hopefully have a great turn out for our first camp. The returning members are very excited about the season and we hope to move up from our 5th place position last year. If you are looking for a corps, keep us in mind. We are a great corps with a very positive attitude. Peace, Love, and Drum Corps Lee Plummer
  14. haha.... keep up the good work guys, It was cool seeing you at shows. p.s. thanks to whichever member of your corps gave my girlfriend (a fellow canadian and a former bandette member) a canadian pin. It was one of her favorite memories of the summer peace
  15. the guy above me makes a very good point. Anybody scoring above a 85 or so with 2 weeks left will be battling it out in division 2. Calling a winner now is ridiculous....making bets isnt ridiculous right now, maybe just a little stupid. (no offense) Good Luck Academy...I can't wait to see you on the field when you get up here
  16. sorry to tell you buddy... dang near every field for a major competition is like that get over it. I would stick away from the orange bowl if at all possible because that is one of the worst venues I have been for finals. The fact that the yard lines blind you on the dvd is probably one of the things that DCI thinks about least when picking a stadium for finals. Be happy that stadiums are still rather accomodating to drum corps, especially in the midwest. Lee
  17. dude, (i say this as a greeting, not as a reference to your screenname) Mordomer never said anything personally to offend any of the corps in division 3 (myself being in a division 3 corps I know what I am talking about), and he certainly meant no harm towards citations. They well may be on their way up, but that defenitely wasnt the point he was making. Look at the content of posts such as mordomers and actually read what they are saying before making remarks such as your own. Lee
  18. I dont have to much to say about these two points other than 1.We did leave that show because some of the show staff expressed opinions that the area was a bit testy. 2.The rapper announcer quote was also under a part of that post that stated my non-community related gripes about that contest. That was not intended to say the area was safe (which you misquoted me as saying), it was just meant to express my displeasure with the choice of announcers and the lack of "normal" drum corps show ettiquete. I will admit some of my quotes could be construed as racist. But, I am a very good person at heart and am genuinely not a racist. There are obviously a couple of people on this forum who don't believe it was a well thought out show, myself included. Lets just stop this topic because honestly people are just bringing up the same points over and over again and nothing new is really being said. I apologize to all who took my comments as racist, and I feel sorry for writing posts in retalitiation (I should really stop doing that eh?) chill out everyone. The drum corps community is very diverse and getting more so every year. I get the wonderful chance every year to meet great new people from all over the country, from different races, social status, and just different people in general. We will disagree on whether a show should have been held in that area of buffalo, but people disagree on stuff every day. You will not convince somebody either way, especially when trying to ridicule them or find every little fault in their logic. Honestly I think this topic is pretty well done. It has been talked about for 4 pages...most of them in retalition to my previous statements. Just drop it and be happy. Have a good day everyone Respectfully, Lee Plummer
  19. *edit Screw it. I wrote about a page worths of arguments. But hey you guys win this one. There is no such thing as a dangerous neighborhood eh? Take the race war somewhere else
  20. I just pointed that out in my last post
  21. There were two shows in buffalo. A division one show at dunn tire park. AND A DIV2/3 SHOW AT SOME GHETTO COMMUNITY ABOUT A MILE FROM THERE. We are not talking about dunn tire park, nor were we ever talking about that show. For a bunch of mostly white kids from the midwest and the west coast, getting thrown into a almost all African American community with the visual appeal of this one is almost maniacal. I was scared for my life at show mostly from the random people running around our warmup arcs, spraypainted houses, boarded up houses, houses with windows broken out. There were no decent shops or buisnesses within a mile of that site (a pretty safe bet that you are in a remotely band neighborhood in the middle of the city). If you would like me to take you out to this place just give me the money for the plane ticket and a bulletproof vest, and I will take you on a walk through this quaint little neighborhood in the ghetto. My corps left the show site before the awards (which was rained out anyways). Talking to the people from other corps everybody was more than a bit edgy on the situation that they were in. This show site should be done away with. I have another personal experience with this. Me and a couple members of our snareline played for a local news show in the morning for a promo for the div1 show later that day. One of the main promoters of the two buffalo shows drove us back and forth from our practice site to the station. During the car ride he admitted that it was far less than ideal circumstances for a drum corps show. He made a couple of remarks on the diversity at the show, my favorite being "you guys were a couple of marshmallows in a cup of hot chocolate" I dont want to sound racist at all on this site. BUT!!!! throwing a kid like me (I am a white kid from a small rural town) and 500+ kids from remotely the same background into a place where we feel threatened at every moment that we are there is stupid. PLAIN AND SIMPLE. If the kids are complaining that they don't feel safe then something should be done about it. BECAUSE THIS IS ABOUT THE KIDS...right? not so somebody who doesnt even know the facts can try to make us feel bad for commenting on a show THAT NEVER SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED respectfully, Lee Plummer
  22. I know exactly what show kevin is talking about as I was there. It was the least safe I have ever felt in a uniform or otherwise. That is a show that I wouldnt do again for the life of me, because honestly, you could very well be shot there.
  23. This is a little deceptive though, because the entire activity is improving the high division 1 corps are getting better talent wise and chops wise as well the division 2 corps are starting to look like division 1 corps, they are just in a division where they can be succesful because it is hard to go against an organization that has their pick from the 500 kids that show up at their audition camps when every single one of those players was a top dog in their high school or college band......can any division 2 corps or division 3 corps say that...I dont think so, I know I surely cant. Almost every corps is improving every year... the fact that the bottom end of division one is getting better is almost irrelevant because every other aspect of the activity is getting better as well. Just my two cents
  24. Dubuque Iowa My homeshow i guess I love playing there when the sun finally goes down behind the school when it isnt shining in your eyes. This year we ended up staying at East Buchanan High School for a long rehearsal day and an overnight into the showday and they treated us very well. The band director there was very hospitable and even gave the corps members some old cheerleading and basketball warmup uniform stuff...this is great for me because my girlfriend who lives in canada now has a rural Iowa school's cheerleading sweatshirt at her house. ANYWAYS... I always love going to this show (or both shows there)...Its a great atmosphere and is always well worth the trip
