  1. 2010: Raging Storms 2011: Tropical Heat 2012: ...
  2. I should mention that I checked every web site for this info -- you can thank my slow work week. The corps' without housing info listed didn't post it (or have really terrible web sites).

  4. Great review. I, for one, welcome Phantom Regiment as our stormtrooper overlords.
  5. So DCP breeds a culture of negativity? Ever heard of RAMD? If you try to read some of the archived posts, you'll feel compelled to take a six-day shower. That said: it's the internet. People post billions of opinions (mostly wrong) every day. And if you get worked up over what somebody said in a moderated discussion forum, I'd like to see how you'd fare against staff members chewing you out for performance issues.
  6. From what I heard, the Woodbury judges from Saturday were exclusively DCI, whereas the Mankato panel had quite a bit of DCA experience (one of whom might be judging prelims/finals in Annapolis ... just a rumor). It seems like "DCI-centric" judges come in with lower expectations when it comes to all-age corps (I've listened to plenty of tapes if you don't believe me), so you could make the argument that scores could inflate that way. That said, I was at the Mankato show, and neither corps had a good performance. Some pretty nasty wind gusts early that evening. Sounds like a cop-out, but it was pretty bad. I'm usually skeptical of 5+ point drops, but this might have some merit. Or it could all be a conspiracy to keep Minnesota corps down
  7. Yep, still at Blakeslee. No room for drum major podiums, either. DMs need to conduct within the audience.
  8. I plan on watching Spirit, then calling 911 to deal with my melted face problem.
  9. I had an absolute blast seeing you all perform in 2010. Can't wait to see what you'll bring this time around. Cheers
  10. Thanks for the great review. If you go to anymore shows, keep doing write-ups like this.
  11. So BD has a cocksure attitude fueled by lots of wins and isn't afraid to show it off. Got it.
  12. I've posted a few of the housing sites for the upcoming MN shows in Woodbury and Mankato. Where are the other groups (Madison, Troopers, Glassmen, etc) staying? 13. It's also the best stadium to buy drugs outside of. The stadium itself is fine, but I don't miss warming up two miles away and being bussed to the site. I know that was the case for 2003 finals.
  14. Tuning slide as a weapon FTW. Although, the cymbalist could wear one on his/her hand and the other as a body shield with the help of some vines. 8 days till Akron. Cherish this off-season-ness while you still can.
  15. One more clarification: the Troopers' DM acts as enforcer. If you violate the rules, you get the sword. 11 days till Akron, BTW.
  16. Please, this is a serious thread discussing a possible direction our activity might take. Maybe not in the near future, but soon. If our hypothetical competitors play it long-term and avoid eachother for several months/years, smelting could be possible. Now finding ingredients for waffles? Don't be ridiculous. The omnipresent game-makers would never allow that. Still 12 days until the first show.
  17. And the votes are flooding in! Six for each as of 5:20 CST! Forget the Wisconsin recall, your vote means more here! Here's where I stand, at least for now. I've played both myself and am pretty acquainted with the properties of each. Gone back and forth quite a bit: - Short-term melee: Cymbals have the advantage. If both players meet immediately with their instruments intact, I could imagine the cymbalist putting in more strikes. The contra master would have more for defense, obviously. There's also a slight chance that the cymbals would crack if unwisely wielded. The metal quality for both could be a factor. - Skirmishes over a long-term: This is where the contra player might have an advantage. With enough time and shelter, you can re-assemble your horn into something less-awkward, or even multiple weapons (a club, shield and/or projectiles). The cymbal player would have less resources, although the ability to sharpen would be a definite plus. EDIT: 12 days until the end of the off-season, FYI.
  18. Some great points. I'll add a few clarifications: - You can use any part of your instrument, either as a blunt object or projectile (i.e. you can pelt your opponent with the mouthpiece) - Smelting parts/all of your instrument is allowed - The winner gets a nice gift certificate
