  1. Prairie Sound Drum & Bugle Corps is looking for Percussoinists for a basic drum battery including snares, tenors, bass drums and cymbals. We are also looking for a Percussion Instructor, in the KC metro, who will work "for the love of the game." We can't pay you, however, you will be able to pu your name on your product. We prefer those with Drum Corps experience but will consider people with other percussion ensemble experience. :) Help us build a corps in 2006 so we can compete in 2007. If interested, slide us an email at skyryder85n87@yahoo.com
  2. Prairie Sound Drum & Bugle Corps is looking for a brass instructor in the KC metro area who will work for "the love of the game." We can't pay you, however, you will get to build a brass section in your image. We have 2 valve G Bugles and a collection of players who need a good brass instructor. We prefer someone with Drum Corps experience but will consider a person with other brass line experience. B) If you are up to the task of helping us build in 2006 so we can compete in DCM & DCA in 2007, give us an email at skyryder85n87@yahoo.com

  6. I didn't mean we should be happy with 12 corps. I was just saying, if the high school kids are not able to tour because of all year round school, are there even enough college age kids to fill the top twelve corps. I was suggesting the future of the activity might be having regional circuits with competition on the weekends. I would like to have a corps in every town, not just 12 super corps.
  7. Phantom might have to tighten the old belt for a few years. Maybe they should tour closer to home and get more local support by recruiting more people from their region. :) There is no shame in that game.
  8. Year round school is the trend in education in many parts of the country. If this continues, soon High School students won't be able to tour nationally. If DCI adapts to this and creates regional circuits maybe the Jr. level activity will survive. If DCI doesn't recognize the problem, only College age performers will be left. Are there enough College performers to fill 12 corps?????? :P Hmmm, new life for DCM? Probably.
  9. I marched Sky Ryders and saw the Railmen a couple times before that. I remember there were a couple of snare drummers from Railmen in 87. One guys name was Chad. I heard he is in a rock band that's doing well. I remember seeing a few more Railmen at the auditions for Sky Ryders for the 88 season. I ran out of money and couldn't march that year which would have been my age out year. We are starting a Senior/All Age Drum & Bugle Corps in Olathe, Kansas. (a suburb of KC) We hope to build enough in 2006 to make DCM in 2007. If things go real well, we may make a couple DCA shows in the new Central DCA Division. We have a Yahoo Group that was formed in 2004 just before I took off to Iraq. Our Status Now:We have sent in our Kansas incorporation papers, we have 22 bugles and building, we are searching for some good field drums and have a couple of good leads. Check out our Yahoo site for developments. Everyone who is interested is invited to participate. Who knows, we could spin off a Nebraska Corps from this effort. Sgt. D. Prairie Sound
  10. We were going to use the mini corps as a vehicle for those who aren't able to march a show. ie. the physically broke people who can still play a bugle real well. Is that wrong for us to do.
  11. Some Drum & Bugle out there just needs to dominate their circuit, using G Bugles, so we can put this stuff behind us. Naw, that wouldn't happen. The Liberals have too great a foothold in all aspects of everthing. :sshh: :sos:
  12. It's still in progress. I sure hope the rest of the Junior Corps hold off a couple more years so we can buy their 3 valve Gs. Mike, the picture of that beautiful woman is real distracting and makes it a tad difficult to disagree with your view points. It's not really fair. I don't mean any disrespect but you put it out there for everyone to see.
  13. WWI Veterans started the activity. From what I can gather, the activity really took off at the Junior levels in the 60's. The performance levels really improved the 70s. Equipment really changed inthe 80s as far as drums becoming more high tech and the bugles going from valve rotor to two valve as the norm. Three valve bugles becaome the standard for the early 90s then Bb/F lines. Drums continue to improve. As far as the human factor, I think more college educated music educators entered the activity through the years and little by little got rid of the militaristic traditions. The performances became less rigid, more musical and more accessible to the spectators. I do know , when I marched for a season and went back to marching with my College Band, I found the band experience was just not enough. Bands are have a good number of people who are just there for the easy grade or because of parental pressure. Most if not all Corps members are in the activity because they really want to be there. I think that is what allows a Drum & Bugle Corps to outperform most if not all marching bands. I don't think Drum & Bugle Corps is long gone.
  14. Prairie Sound. Two valve Baritone. Ultratone II made by F.E. Olds & Son. Fullerton California. b**bs The rest of our line will be on 2 valve DEG/Dynastys and 2 valve Kings. All in G Baby, all in G. B)
  15. I remember those uniforms. I thought they looked really good at the time. They really got my attention. I'm kinda suprised they are still around.
