  1. while i agree with you about genero i believe that the reason for the hurcs sucess had more to do with ray luedee.his lines took 1st place in 6 of 8 dca championships. when they didn't take 1st they were in the top 3. the hurcs horns never plced with that concistancy. he did write some really good stuff and had a lot of fire. IMHO
  2. thats funny.......nice play on words. :)
  3. that would be him. a great person and one hell of a drummer. he passed away in may.....god rest his soul. i forgot to add joe kraft to the list.
  4. in the drumline colin campbell steve gadd tom falsone dick nicrow jim clements frank nash bill magrath bill stork danny pellagrino rick buckland john flowers rick colletti don o'conner frank michaels 1977 bassline guard bob ashton gary richardson stan & tony on rifles
  5. WOW.......that is a great cast of characters. a lot of great people there and i'm proud to say i knew most of them. i know he wasn't a sop but............THE GREAT PEPE NATARO. one of my all time favs.
  6. alan smythe was a crowd paesing dm.......but he was a lousy conductor........see my prior post. if you remember mike corky would not let him conduct. the drumline could not follow the guy.....we made the tempo on our own after corky left.
  7. after the 1972 season vince bruni purged the crusaders of the most talented people of the corps. the crusaders have never recovered from that purge. this is what led to the formation of phoenix in 1975. there was a lot of hard feelings back then but what were those people supposed to do. not march because cru was still around. i was one of those that was purged but came back to cru to be in colin campbells drumline. i for one never had hard feelings and had many friends on the other side. i think it's rediculouos to hold it against any one that switches corps. it's a choice that people make for whatever reason. if your with a corps for a number of years and nothing changes and you want to win but it dosen't look like where your at is going to change then you have to. i was loyal to cru and never marched anywhere elese be cause i felt incredible loyalty there but i never faulted any one going else where.
  8. in my experiance the dm's we had were good for the crowd but were lousy as far as conductors. corky fabrizio would NEVER let the dm conduct concert. when he left the corps and the dm directed we in the drumline could not watch him as he was clueless. now look mat the years i marched and try to figure out who the dm is that i'm talking about. i will give you a hint........it WASN'T the great doc mizma.
  9. i agree i don't think they could have won. but i will say they were probably the best corps for a 5 th place ever. i still can't stomach that they tied us. IMHO.
  10. 1969..........yankee rebels requiem for an era 1972..........skyliners elks parade 1972 rochester crusaders battle hymn.......actually the entire show
  11. they are great. when you see them your memory will come back. it's funny how you remember things but then when you see them you say to yourself.......WOW..........now i remember. thoses dvd's are definatly priceless.
  12. #1-i was using that as an example #2- who say's they were overdue? you? just because you think so dosen't make it so #3- it's relevent because it was something that was illegal and was changed to make it legal you seem to think that everybody else has no right to have an opinion.....wrong!!! the fact that shellmer taught both corps shows my point. he lobbied and evetually everybody caved. a lot of drum instructors at the time were opposed.
  13. i don't know how long you've been around but you sound very gullible. sun had no support in 1969 and see what happened. sounds like your history dosen't go back very far. maybe i'm wrong. open your eyes real wide and maybe you can see through the fog. BTW........i'm to old to be hyper anything.
  14. this could be how it get's legal. one or two directors want it, they lobby and talk a majority into it. suff like this happened before. in 1969 sun used gocks in thier show. it was illegal and got penalized every show that year. they continued to use them all year. then they started talking to the other directors and 4 years later guess what ....there legal. don't be so sure it won't happen..........i give it 5 years .........max. it will suck but it will happen.
  15. i think you've been in the sun to long..........your brain is fried
  16. i got mine in 3 days also. hey bill i could pick you out in the line with no problem. billy to. we looked soooo cool!!!
  17. very good point..........i didn't want to say it as i have alreadt shook the tree on this thread.
  18. do you have a ball park figure? i thought there was about 300 in n.y. state alone?
  19. i can't speak for today but back when i marched the whole thing was the guard marched but didn't play an instument so the corps said they better not make mistakes cause that's all they do. i feel your pain. i alway's felt it was wrong to feel that way. i didn't even though i played drums. they are part of the corps and should be included in the good, thebad, and the ugly. :)
