  1. You want me to pay you a dollar for watering (AM'ing) what you asked for in the first place? An arrangers job is soooooo thankless. Would you like me to add a flute part while I'm at it?
  2. There is no watering in Drum Corps! . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . The term is Aquatic Modification for those of the slower valved persuasion.
  3. Ok, I have been officially put in my place. Note to self: Unison chromatic 132nd notes during a jazz run.
  4. <~~~~~~~~~Had Green Bean casserole.
  5. Watching the video's; I think I played better in the rain. It was pushing the pit equipment around in that weather that darn near did me in. JW
  6. Merry Christmas! And a happy Corps year!
  7. great explanation! Favorite note on a sop=Concert D above the staff (G) Favorite note on Mello=Concert F above the staff (Bb) Favorite note on Bari= Same as mello *vab (or maybe a C) Contra= any note below the written Ab above the staff(But Rumbles on an F in the staff)
  8. I cant wait to top the open house! The brass books are going to rock your world!
  9. 1988 Vangaurd live got me interested and them my High School Band director (at Mt. Diablo, in Concord) got me involved in playing. I left corps in 1990 to study music composition and didnt get involved with the sport again until 2004. Now, working with the Socal Dream staff and Dave Carico, has kept me pretty entertained. John PS Wheres the H?. Respect the W! (Just for you Ryan ();o)....)
  10. True volume is in the undertones and spatial vibrations. Some of the large bore Bb's can sound pretty close to a G horn.
  11. On G bugles F major and C major chord are the loudest. F because of the Tessitura and C major because of the open fingering. On Bb's it would be a concert Bb due to open fingering. The trick is not so much the notes that you pick, but on how you voice the chord. Open chords will sound louder then closer voicings. (but be careful, on Bb's it really easy to write you chords too thin.) John PS Sam you have your arrangers backwards.
  12. Thanks for your help Last year at DCA. We owe you lunch.
  13. Thats funny! And The near wipeout wasn't even my fault!
