Positive Reinforcement Vs Negative Reinforcement
Slow Adam replied to TheClutch's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
In this case it didn't. As players the skill level of the line was very consistent, and we had great chemistry with each other. It was all about being the guy who made his everyone else do the fewest pushups. -
Positive Reinforcement Vs Negative Reinforcement
Slow Adam replied to TheClutch's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
In one particular junior corps I marched if a snare drummer ticked, or was called out by a staff member the whole snare line dropped, if a quad ticked the whole quad line dropped and so on. It was all self enforced. That was motivation to correct mistakes in a hurry. -
Yeah, I mean it's not like you can use woodwinds in I&E, or that some corps will use them for the first 6 minutes of their field time this year or anything...
-
The solution is simple. Every corps rehearses in a dome.

Volume level of the World Class Corps

The loudest thing I have ever witnessed WAS drum corps. 1999 championships in Madison - They had every brass player from every corps (not just the top 12) play America/O'Canada. -
Don't think twice about doing it, as long as you've got everything taken care of with your money/work/school situation...just do it.

Hmmm, an illegal clip on youtube led to the purchase of DVD's.

It's covering his snow balls.

Best Champion Corps of the Decade!

I also voted for Brigs 2002, but I don't see how shows like it are common now... -

Good idea. Ditch the dome before it's too late.

I don't thin anyone here wants DCI to fail to the point of inactivity or bankruptcy. I think what people are hoping for is a wake up call. It's like an overweight smoker knowing he needs to make a change, but not doing anything about it until he has a heart attack. Maybe DCI's heart attack will be 8,000 people at finals. Hopefully it happens sooner than later.

So we should throw money at an organization that is blindly following a horribly wrong direction and is grasping to fix a broken idea rather than just admitting they need to make a fundamental change???? It worked for GM. For now.

So you played a 16th based double stroke roll at 164 bpm. How did it sound?

Best Bronze Medal Corps of the Decade

I had to go with Statesmen 2009, just because it's the first (and probably last!) time a show I marched has been a poll option on DCP! -
What is the most talked about DCI show from 1993, if not the most talked about DCI show ever?

My favourite part of that solo is the invert-accents-heritas-accents-inverts transition.

Again, I may be wrong here, but I think the composer may have had a change of heart after the fact.
-
It's not that Phantom, or other groups in DCI or WGI, "used the music without permission". There are two separate issues - permission to arrange/perform, and synchronization rights. Phantom was bitten by the latter, and IIRC it was well after the fact that the composer denied rights.

In the I&E piece I referenced, he basically plays flam taps at a very respectable double stroke roll tempo...so in essence he is getting 50% more strokes per unit time than just the roll by itself. Check it out, you'll be amazed. Go to you know where and search for Niko Jasniewicz Solo 2004.
