  1. Well, they beat Carolina Crown tonight at Nightbeat. Granted it was not by much, but that is a testament to the quality of Carolina's show this year. My son has been in SCV for many years and they have always stressed the value of "doing your best" and not tracking the scores as an indication of how well they did. The staff can look at the scores and commentary and let them know how to improve. They have a great staff who are well aware of the excellence to shoot for. I believe in their abiltiy to pull it out and keep up the improvement level. Any of the top 7 can do the same.
  2. Alex, the current DM of SCV, has marched SCV for 6 years, so he started when he was 16. He had already done 2 years with the Seattle Cascades before that, so he first marched when he was 14. That doesn't count a summer with Northern Lights when he was 13, so he was able to see '99 Vanguard in action. He is aging out this year, so he has had a nice long run.
  3. I too am a fan of this site. I don't know if you keep track of how many hits you get, but I am sure it is high. As to your comment about having to reenter the scores, I was wondering why you are not copying and pasting from the DCI official score page. I know I have pasted in to Excel and then you could convert that to a csv to import into wherever you are storing it. It would cut down on the keying errors and save a heck of a lot of time. Maybe DCI could even give you a special file feed? Rekeying takes so much time. I feel for you, but appreciate your commitment.
  4. Artistry in Motion Place Corps Score Division I 1 Blue Devils 84.800 2 Santa Clara Vanguard 83.250 3 Spirit from JSU 72.100 4 Pacific Crest 71.700 5 Cascades 71.200 6 Troopers 69.350 7 Madison Scouts 67.700
  5. The Santa Clara Vanguard organization is seeking volunteers in many areas. Help on Miss Amana, the food truck, whether you "cook" or not, is very much needed. :) Ask anyone who has ever volunteered (a day, week, month, any time is appreciated) and they will tell you it pretty much changed their life! Yes, it's often hard work, but when you see how hard the kids work to put their show on the field, and how appreciative they are, you'll likely get "bitten by the bug" and look forward to volunteering again. It's a great way to see other parts of the country you might not otherwise have a chance to see, and provide a fantastic service to 150+ people at the same time. The friendships you make will be life long! From Maggie, Souvie Lady for Spokane Thunder: “This year I'm doing "Souvies" for Spokane Thunder. They're a Div III Corps up here in the Northwest. Last year I drove them on their first tour of the Midwest and to their very first showing at DCI Championships where they took 6th place. Not bad for their first time if you ask me. It was so cool to be a part of that historic event in this young Corps life. I was so proud of them. It totally reminded me of touring with SCV back in the early early years. Ben, you remember that, right? Anyway, as one who has spent a few Summers working for Corps, Big AND Small, it has been nothing but the best experience I ever had (except marching myself of course), I encourage everyone here who has anytime AT ALL to volunteer with ANY Corps... GO DO IT! You won't regret it. “ The following represents our current need: Date Place Volunteer Need 6/2/2007 Angels Camp, CA - 2 people 6/9/2007 Angels Camp and Fremont - 4 people 6/16/2007 Fremont to Walnut CA - 3 people (Fremont to Bakersfield) 6/23/2007 Walnut CA to Mankato MN - 4 people 6/30/2007 MN to PA - 4 people 7/7/2007 PA to GA - 4 people 7/14/2007 GA to San Antonio - 4 people 7/21/2007 San Antonio to Denver - 4 people 7/28/2007 Denver to Stanford CA - 3 people Email me as soon as you can to start scheduling your ride with Miss Amana. Thanks! Ruth
  6. In the writeup in the program for SCV, you see: In "Speed of Sight", vigorous and unrelenting motion revolves around a solo individual who moves as if in a different dimension, one who ultimately marches forward in to the realm of the future. At the end Mr Moto follows the corps up to the cymbal "V" who when he reaches them, break apart and escort him off "into the future". I agree about the mystique factor....
  7. I was checking out the colts website too since I am about to volunteer on Miss Amana for 2 weeks. They certainly are very high tech - posting each day what the menu is and the schedule. Everyone should do that. I also saw that there were 8 volunteers in the food truck today and usually had 5 people on other days. They must be doing something right. I don't think SCV has had that many. I think the cooks share their recipes sometimes, don't they? When I volunteered with the Cadets during Tournament of Champions in 2004, we stayed at a college in Utah and we had all the cook trucks in a circle. Everyone had fun visiting everyone else and sharing kitchen designs and stories. They even had a Iron Chef type contest with the truck drivers judging. Its too bad they couldn't do something like that more often. Any one have any advice on what kids like the best for dinner?
  8. I want to thank you, Blue Devil Legend, for initiating this thread and to all that have expressed their pleasure in seeing SCV this year. There are many age-outs in Vanguard this year and I want them to be proud of their show, as they should be. I have a son in the corps and have seen it in California a few times. I won't see them again until Foxboro, but I know from hearing the APD's that they have improved dramatically and I just love the music! :P
  9. Well, if you were from my area (Portland), you could drive with me down to the Bay area on Aug 5, fly from Oakland to Denver in the afternoon, catch the end of quarterfinals, go to semi-finals and finals, volunteer with the Cadets or SCV from Denver to California and then drive home with me and my 2 sons, one who is in SCV, one in Cadets. But since you are from LA, you can fly to Denver on the 6th, catch the end of semi-finals, go to finals, leave for home early on the 8th so you can be back with your family by breakfast. All for $214 round trip. B) 214.20 USD per person 1 United Airlines 504 Aug 6 6:30 pm LAX 9:38 pm DEN Non-stop 2 United Airlines 567 Aug 8 6:30 am DEN 7:49 am LAX Non-stop As to the babysitter, post an offer for a trade. Someone babysits for you while you go to Denver. In exchange, you babysit for them for the 2 Tournament of Champions shows. Problem solved!! P.S. I knew you were kidding
