Non winning championship shows
cajal replied to Mouthpiece1234's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Devils 84, 88, 95 and 2004 Star 1990, 1993 Cadets 1992 Phantom 1989, 2006 -
This year - Devils. All time: Phantom 93, Cadets 05, Blue Devils 2000, and one that I've not seen mentioned yet... Crown 95, I loved 'Watermark'.

So what do we want the cadets to be?
cajal replied to Rounder's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Another Cadets apologist thread. If everything they do is 'innovative' and performed to the nth degree... why do the Cadets fans care? Find solace in the fact that you love your corps, and you loved their 2007 program. Let it go. -
There's a simple answer here...... go cadets, leave your logic at the door.

When it's time to walk away-
cajal replied to Gator Eagle's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
It still amazes me that anyone thought that narration or singing was an essential component to a show. Many claim that DCI (the BOD) has a vision. I know the bottom ($) line drives any organization, but where is a line drawn? I know many will say 'free for all', standard response. If we agree that DC is a niche activity, why bother to make it more 'mainstream'? -
The DCI Champion is too predictable....

"I am highly educated"...interesting. I wonder what classes you failed. -
I thought the 88 version was far better. It's as if the 89 corps made a statement 'we didn't win with this last year, we #### well better this year'. Great execution and all, but not even close to being one of my favorite SCV shows.

Since voice seems like it's here to stay, a jazz call and response with the crowd seems obvious. 'Minnie the Moocher' over the mics (and the corps waiting for the response) would work well, I think. I'd prefer if there was no voice, but if it has to be used I think that would be fun.

Thank You Carolina Crown!
cajal replied to Tone Quality Matters's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Fantastic show, Crown. I was wearing my Stormworks t-shirt yesterday for luck. Being adored by the fans is never a bad thing! -
The Cadets this year were a study in precision. I sincerely hope that the guys/gals in the corps had fun, and I also hope that their design team makes more prudent choices in the future.

The 2007 DCI Finals Thread
cajal replied to nsutrumpet1984's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
'As long as we don't have moron judges like last night, I think I can be remotely happy with the results. DCI, get a clue and get some good judges, or give it up.' cloud, the judges that didn't have the cavies in first? yes, kick them all out -
Wow. That's all I have to contribute.
-
What a performance!
-
At the beginning of the season, I told my wife that I could care less where the Devils finish, I love their show. She was quite annoyed when I pointed out the musical quips from past shows, but I feel the same way now
-
Does anyone else think that (with a few exceptions) that the music in these shows is less choppy than they have been in the last five years?
-
And there was no booing... imagine that. Maybe the audience last night was annoyed with Hop?
-
Wow, the Devils were intense.
-
Great performance. I can't stand the concept, but the guys/gals had a hell of a show.
-
Heh, JMS. At least there's no chance for an 'east! east! east!' chant
-
Sorry Evan, they'll always be 'Garfield' to me
-
To be honest, I'm more interested in the crowd reaction than the 'this I believe' show. No offense, but if the narration is so loud that it obscures the rest of the corps, I'm hitting mute. Do a good show, Garfield.
-
Agreed, Bawker. There is something missing from that show, and emotion might be it. Great playing and marching, but there's no 'hook' that grabs you.
-
Very odd that the cavies aren't hitting their lines (read:straight) tonight. I haven't seen that in a long time from them.

When I said the duet in Phantom's show was the best that I'd heard all year, I'm going by articulation and lack of fracked notes... a little flat, yes.
