The 65th annual Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade was the first appearance of an All-Star Corps named Pride of Drum Corps All Stars from Bloomington Indiana, this Corps was invited to participate in the 1991 Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade, and it included corps from DCM, DCE, DCA, and ODCA (Ontario Drum Corps Association). A friend of a person met him back in 93 and he (the friend), being a Devils alum, asked wheather he had ever heard Blue Devils' performances of his (Chic's) music. So they got to talking about drum corps stuff and found out that he marched soprano when he was a youngster (the corps name Purple Knights jumps to mind, but I'm unable to verify). Another poster said Chick Corea marched in the St. Rose's Scarlet Lancers (from the Boston area) Chuck Mangione Cliff Klaven (aka John Ratzenberger) played bass drum with the Royal Lancers in Bridgeport, CT in the '60's. Dave Gibbs (Blue Devils director) marched Blue Devils soprano Doc Severinson marched with a corps in Eastern Oregon in his youth. It was an American Legion Post corps (no name is specific). Ed McMahon George (Mr. Sulu) Takei marched in the L.A. Koyasan Scouts. Glenn Kotche marched Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps Maynard Ferguson was said to have marched in a corps from Canada... and one poster said that he heard that Maynard "worked" with Toronto Optimist hornline in the late '60s. Michael Jackson (the football player with the Seahawks in the 80's, not the gloved one) marched with the Columbians of Tri Cities, Wa in the 70's. An article talked about Tommy Lee going through various drum corps' in his youth. But didn't say which Corps he was in. Pat Petrillo marched Bridgemen Drum & Bugle Corps A close friend of a person had a Rush autobiography book..in this book, an interviewer asks Neil if he marched...he said no. He did however say he liked them. Russ McKinnon is the drummer for Tower of Power now. Tower of Power marched in 27th Lancers Skip Prokup(sp?), drummer for Lighthouse("One Fine Morning") marched Optimist; he even pulled out a full size corps snare on a stand during concerts. As we know the 5 caption trophies are averages of THUR, FRI, SAT. If there is a tie, the Finals number breaks it. GE: Bloo has a .45 lead, so if BD is announced the Angelica winner, it’s #19 in ‘19. Nobody else is close. Visual: the Brazale is just the 20 pt proficiency caption. I don’t know why they don’t add in analysis, but it is what it is. BD holds a .15 lead over Bloo. It’s conceivable that Bloo can pick that up but not too likely. Guard: BD has a .05 edge over BAC, so whoever gets the top score tonight wins the Zingali. Brass: wow, Crown only has a .15 lead over (edit) Bloo. Again, Bloo isn’t out of it but needs a tepid run by CC to gain at least that.15. Percussion: SCV is comfortable at .175 over BD. Bloo is .25 back. Again, BD could win Visual and Guard and get the Silver. Bloo MUST win GE to get the Gold — unless this week’s trends go wrong.

The Skyliners Announce Guard Staff for the 2019 Season The Skyliners are pleased to announce that Mary Meyer will be the Color Guard Caption head for the 2019 season. Mary currently resides in Paoli, Pennsylvania and works as a middle school special education teacher in the school district of Philadelphia. Graduating from West Chester University with dual majors in Early Grades Preparation and Special Education and a minor in Reading in December 2017, Mary has been teaching Special Education since January 2018, and color guard since the fall of 2015. Mary started her performing career as a founding member of the Madison High School Marching Dodgers color guard, which ignited her passion for the activity and for teaching. Mary continued her color guard career after high school through joining the Cadets2 color guard and West Chester University Incomparable Golden Rams Marching Band color guard in 2013. She continued to perform with C2 for 2013-2015 and 2017-2018, and West Chester for 2013-2016, serving one year as captain. Mary has also had the opportunity to be a member of Aero Independent Winter Guard, Cadets Winter Guard, Main Line Independent Winter Guard, and the Jersey Surf. Past teaching experience includes color guard caption head at Bayard Rustin High School in 2015, Flag tech for Downingtown Indoor Blue guard, and Daniel Boone High School. Mary is currently the Caption Head for the Lancaster Catholic High School color guard, and a Tech/Choreographer for Cheltenham color guard. She has also founded an indoor color guard which will debut this season at Woodrow Wilson Middle School, where she is a Special Education teacher. A non drum corps friend expressed concern and dislike for the use of rifles by color guards, particularly in light of the frequent unfortunate events of the past few years. To me, and likely to other long-timers, a drum corps rifle seems as harmless looking as a flag/silk. There is no emotional reaction. What do others think? Does the type of equipment used, such as rifles and sabers, somehow send or perpetuate an undesirable message? I promised to post this and gather your reactions. Note: talk of politics and religion are not allowed on DCP, so let's try not to descend into that for the sake of the conversation. Thanks

The Red Lion Area Senior High School Marching Lions located in Red Lion, Pennsylvania is currently in search of an additional full or part time Color Guard Instructor for a 24-member color guard. Rehearsals during the school year are held Tuesdays 3-530; Wednesdays 530-8PM, and Thursdays 6PM-9PM. Looking for a candidate to begin around August 13, 2018. Rehearsals are also held on Saturdays of competitions. Base salary for a full time position is $2,483 plus a percentage for years of experience. Part time instructor is pro-rated. Can someone please help me plan corps style color guard camp (flags)? There will be 6 experienced girls and 4 brand new. The old ones know the opener, and the new ones just know a few fundamentals from tryouts. We will meet 4 days from 9:00 to noon before band camp week starts, at which time they will work with the band from 9:00 to noon, and then practice alone from 1:00-4:00. I am a band director, not a guard person. We have a capable captain, and occasional outside help, but I need to have a game plan on how much time to spend on fundamentals, and how much time to spend on the opening routine (which actually uses the swing flags). I need to know how to plan these 3 hour blocks for maximum effectiveness, with a mix of fundamentals and the routines (which we have on video broken down by an instructor). The show is from Marching Show Concepts, but I think the routine is from someone else. I know I am asking for free help, but I would like an experienced instructor to answer me.
