SCV percussion scores!

I think the main issue with the SCV drumline right now is the pit's timing. The battery is very solid regardless of how young they may be. . .especially with the crazy drill demand they have. When I saw them, the pit was a little shaky with their timing with the rest of the corps and that could be hurting their scores a bit. Just a thought. But either way, it's not uncommon for SCV to make huge strides in the latter part of tour in time for finals. And if you combine a polished line with the musical and marching demand that they are attempting, great things could happen for them. I hope it happens but I guess we'll see. :sshh:

thats a huge distance to gain especially for the drumline. they can clean up to a point.. but for any corps.. i wouldnt expect a miracle with the drum scores.

Ah yes, but drum scores (fortunately) don't determine placement. There are 8 captions total, with most of the weight going to General Effect. And Vanguard this season has no problem with General Effect, if they can sell their show. :) General Effect usually wins a competition (trust me, I know this to be true).

Except none of those other corps' captions are behind the curve as much as SCV's drums.

Nice attempt at being a smartass though, I was almost kind of impressed.

They dont have to be (and for the record, the cadets guard is in 6th or 7th, while most other captions are in 1st or 2nd, kinda a big deal). My point was that every corps can make the most improvement by fixing their weaknesses, which is sorta a 'DUH' kinda thing.

Its off topic - but i wish this would change. I dont like the fact that the most nebulous caption is also the one given the most weight. When is the last time a corps didnt win either GE caption, but still won finals???

in 1997 BD won all captions.. but lost GE

i'm sorry, but i haven't been impressed with SCV since casella left. even when murray was still there, it still didn't seem the same. sure, they played some of the same exercises, but the execution wasn't there.

i think some of the problem is the writing. it seems...strange. there were a lot of battery writing issues last year that i think hurt them. mike jackson writes for them, right? he does an awesome job with Mission Viejo's indoor line, but it seems to me that now he has something else to worry about (i.e. the brass line) it just doesn't line up well. the line is really young too. i think only one person in the snare line is 20 or over.

i think also if they got rid of that sloppy technique it would help out too. too much excessive motion. seems like everyone is doing something different.

but enough about this. i wish nothing bad upon any corps, but i'm saying 7th in drums, which will end up doing to them what happened to crown last year.
