TicTickyTic
I haven't done it, so take this for what it is worth....if I had a group that rehearsed as little as yours, and the players were pleying their 'regular' horns often in the same timeframe, IMO it would just make sense for them to play in the key they are using most of their playing time, if that is an option for you. Well it is a potential option. A very expensive one. I'm wondering if it is worth the effort.

ContraRich77
I won't even begin to profess an inner sight into the intricacies of tonal lore. Honestly, with the exception of my partiality to G's because of history and tradition I can't TELL a difference. Bb/F/G/L#, I don't really see any big difference. Do professional symphonies play on matched horns / matched strings? I don't think so. THERE you go. A public admission that despite my four years marching DCI and SEVEN in senior corps, I couldn't tell the difference between Bb/G if you beat me to death with one of each. Big Difference: The Bb's make a more satisfying crunch WHEN YOU STOMP THEM!

Martybucs
I think any key is fine. However, tradition says, stick with G bugles. Sometimes uholding a tradition for tradition's sake is worth while. If there is no hardship involved I would stay with G bugles.
