LoveKathyG
Blind as in blindfolded. Has it ever been done? If so, what was the result? If not, what do you think about it? I think it would be really cool but potentially dangerous. VK winterguard did a blindfolded show in '84 and/or '85. Their blindfolds were pretty sheer, so their vision wasn't completely blocked. It was a very cool effect, nontheless.
BoxVSoprano
my vis staff used to always tell us we should be able to march our sets with our eyes closed and would encourage us to do it as much as we felt comfertable doing so. i used to do a couple sets at a time with my eyes closed for fun. definitely possible, not a big deal really imo
Mello - Benji
During our elimination basics block, our instructor finally got impatient and had the last 2 or 3 guys march an 8 to 5 with their eyes closed. Nothing notable happened, but it was pretty cool. Jeez, I can't imagine marching sets with eyes closed though. =O
sopchick_01
Not to be nit-picky but isn't there some drill moves that are kinda blind anyway? I remember once that I had to march 16 counts backwards at an angle where I would meet the company front building behind me. It was intense. I almost crashed with the guy on my left because on the right a guy was marching a contra, lol. Eventually, I got it but it was pretty scary and nerve wracking to be consistent and precise. kadune
We had a Vis block one time where we did an exercise or two with our eyes closed. On an extended backwards march, a mellophone player drifted really badly and ran into me... I can't remember what happened but he 1) wasn't going in a straight line and 2) didn't have the right step size (but that might have been the same for me too)... thankfully we didn't have instruments in hand. But as for drill... nope.
DarrenE
My dad had a blind kid that played trombone in his marching band in the 70's. He always marched between the same two people all four years. and they had a system of giving him cues if he got out of place. Not Drum Corps but seemed relevant to the thread. Perhaps, but i think th OP was talking about not having any visual reference at all. In this case you could probably still guide of yardlines, sidelines, or hashes. NeutralNovice
I was just thinking on how it would be a cool effect to have a small section of a drill where the corps would lower their blindfolds, do some drill, remove the blindfold then CHEERS... I think that would be pretty cool!
