According to the sign-up list for Dayton - Ind Open prelims is at 39 guards. One more and they have a semi-finals. Does anyone have any idea when and where WGI would have this???? I assume it would be sometime Friday - but where.

It would probably be at the Dayton Convention Center, which just finished being renovated about a month ago or Trent Area, which is about 3 years old. Both would be great venues from semis. That's most likely where they would be.

Even at 39 guards - I would think a semi's would have been added already.

from wgi:

For the first time the Color Guard Independent Open Class will have a semi-finals at the 2008 WGI World Championships. Entries reached the required number of 40 color guards in order to add the semi-finals to the competitive schedule.

"We are very pleased that the growth of this class has reached the need for a semi-finals in Dayton this year," said Dale Powers, Color Guard Coordinator. "It proves that the efforts we have put into encouraging young instructors and proper classification is paying off in the growth of the Independent Open Class."

The new semi-finals contest is scheduled for Friday, April 11 with a tentative start time of 4pm at either the Dayton Convention Center or Trent Arena. The top fifteen from this new contest will compete for the championship on Saturday, April 12.

The Independent Open Class is shaping up to be WGI's most diverse class this year. Color guards from 21 states are already entered into the championship preliminaries but it is also the most international class with two guards from Canada and one each from the Netherlands and United Kingdom.

In May the Color Guard Advisory Board voted to relax the age restriction in the A & Open classes in order to encourage participation from international groups. International color guards tend to have older performers than in the United States and programs are still in the early stages of their development. Previously international groups that had older members were required to compete in the World Class.

"This is encouraging that the decision made by the advisory board will foster more participation by international groups," said Executive Director Ron Nankervis. "We hope that this is the first step in making WGI more accessible to groups outside the United States."

....yes......acce$$ible.......acce$$ible indeed! :w00t:

i would love to see more representation from outside the u.s. however i can imagine how crushingly and prohibitively expensive it must be to travel here to compete.
