Sam, thanks for telling me what something I love "isn't about." I know perfectly well what drum corps is "about" to me. And the changes I see like this, the less inclined I am to want to march. Why would I want to participate in something that I don't agree with?

I don't like a lot of food a food truck makes because I'm a picky eater, especially ravioli and meatloaf. Blech.

I also don't like not getting any floor time at some housing sites, wearing t-shirts during meals, and the State of Louisiana.

But, I still march.

Brandon Tanner-

How do we know this is even true? If it is true, then I'm sorry you didn't get to march finals week to collect your mini medal.

If it is true, expecting a stranger to know your sob story isn't exactly wise. How are we supposed to know your history? Don't speak to us like we should.

Dude:

While I do not agree with Brandon on most things, and disagree with him on the current rules propsoals, your tone and attitide here are doing nothing but causing strife.

I know from my years that brandon is speaking the truth. I also know that his opinions are not discounted by the fact that his corps no longer fields. How do the mismangement and financial problems of CR have to do with what he thinks??

You are not helping your point of view, and even though i agree with it in principle, you need to :ninja:

I am sitting here at my keyboard a bit stunned right now. I knew that this day would come and for years I have said that the day electronic instruments passed would be the day I leave the activity. That said I am really torn because on the one hand I am absolutely GUTTED about this and on the other a cant bear leaving the activity I have lived and loved for the last 22 years. It makes me feel SICK to my stomach to think about synthesizers in DCI pits and realising that George Hopkins is exactly ONE rule proposal away from completely destroying drum corps' uniqueness factor. He never let up on amps or electronics so what is to stop him from woodwinds? Nothing.

George, I hope you are happy tonight. You have ruined drum corps.

Don't leave untill the 2008 season is over! Rules are not in effect till then!

side note: Who else but Hopkins, do you think, will continue to use these accessories for the long term? I mean, really, there will come a point where being easy becomes tiresome. Won't it?

I honestly don't understand why people say "I never go to drum corps shows anymore!" in this forum and then stick around to complain about today's drum corps.

I guess some of us had, as irrational as it may hve been, just a little bit of hope left. Maybe that's why we stuck around. I don't know how I will feel in a week or so, but, you may not see me hear complaining about it anymore. Right now, with the immediacy of the vote, I don't feel like being part of anything DCI. We will see if that changes, but I don't know that it will.

According to BoD voting, there should be at least 7 corps that do not utilize electronics (assuming corps directors do not change). So, my concern is this: will these corps be eventually "forced" to use electronics in order to keep up competitively (see: GE) with the corps that do?

I know one response might be "well, it is a corps' own fault if they lose a competitive advantage by not using all equipment available to them." Of course, for many corps (dare I say, MOST corps outside of the most "elite" world class units) may not have the financial capabilities to purchase the elecronics equipment necessary for competition in modern drum and bugle corps.

One thing I am certainly NOT suggesting is a sort of drum corps socialism -- DCI providing electronics equipment to the corps that request it and/or limiing the amoun of electronics equipment a corps may use in order to to "level the playing field."

I'm not against the use of electronics, but this particular implication is at the top of my list of concerns.
