  1. Magic of Orlando 1999 I kept on thinking........Drum corps by day, Cocktail Waiters by night. They pretty much paid off their tour fees by mid July.
  2. Ohiobando, when are you going to change your avatar? I read your posts and then spend the next 5 mintues watching the Scouts amazing 91 drill.
  3. Apologies if this has already been mentioned..... Cadets 1991 Prelude Fugue and riffs. The guard girl with the long hair in the skin tight dress. I want to know what instructions she was given by the colour guard staff for that part of the show. and DCI still sell the dvd with no warning label, disgraceful.
  4. 1.Prince 2.George Lucas 3.Phantom Regiment Blue Devils out of the top 3.........wow!
  5. Although this year i think it may be " Hey George is that a Saxophone in your pocket "
  6. What again? Oh well, as long as the only casualty is Ben affleck this time around
  7. Have the Bluedevils Colourguard decided to wear the all in one catsuit from 1990?
  8. Great topic, it would be even more interesting if they swapped uniforms aswell.
  9. Ha! no gold rims for them this year, best to stick with silver for now.
  10. Now that is different Purple with gold rims..........Are you drumming with Prince this year?
  11. just wanted to mention the mellophone solo for this years show is gorgeous. The pit writing seems to blend so well with the mellophone soloist part, it will definitely be a standout moment at finals for PR this year. Looking forward to the first APD from them. " GO SPARTY GO! "
  12. I hope your right about the new SCV unis. The '80s/'90s jackets were awesome. i've always wondered if they were comfortable to wear because they always looked well tailored. Does this mean that the whole corps is aging out this year
  13. As Fastone has already mentioned this is very sad news. I think Greg used to post on rudimentaldrumming.com forum, i really enjoyed reading about his time with Vanguard and learnt quite a bit from his posts on that site. RIP GREG.
  14. Bluecoats 2007 during the ballad...... just after " i'll be watching you "....Police siren " Calling all units, please make your way to the pit......... We have a STALKER! ".
  15. New uni? i hope that includes white pants. i thought SCV looked awesome in '05
  16. Why indeed. I hope it has something to do with the show design. i've always wanted to see SCV use a white pearl/sparkle wrap on their drums, but they tend to use Blackmax heads and that clashes a little bit too much i suppose......Oh well mylar it is then so far Spirit have got my vote for " the best looking drum champs of '08 ", a nice sparkling blue:thumbup: I can't wait to see if Mapex allow corps to use their full catalogue of drum wraps in the next few years......Oh the choice
  17. Oh yes. with " pearl harbour sucks " for the ballad, to max out GE.
  18. Not quite narration, but every " VANGUARD " moment that been has shouted out over the years should be replaced with..........." MATT DAMON ".
  19. I'm liking the yellow plummage Is there any pictures of the guard uniforms for this year?
  20. i would love to hear some Regiment 89'91 or Star from 90-93 and BD 88'91. In fact i'm suprised that the recent finals dvds have not had the brass judge commentary as a standard audio option. That 86 tape is a great listen, but my favourite BD tape that i own is The Devils 96 field judges tape from finals. the tenorline kicked mighty ### in 96.
  21. Glassmen 1999 Quarterfinals by finals night . Some wonderful backfield playing by the brassline, they really filled the stadium with sound. i just wish that the gmen didn't tune their snareline to sound like a line of cardboard boxes ( 97 & 98 included ). although they did play well.
  22. and brilliant writing by Tom Hannum. The 88 Cadets drumline were superb. Cadetsnare i have a copy of an early season Mike D'angelo judges tape for the Cadets 1990 drumline. It is the one where he is chasing you around and he mentions that he had " TOO MUCH PASTA BEFORE THE SHOW " .
  23. Thanks for the recap Jeffe. I didn't realise that the Blue Knights tied with SCV for 6th place in drums Yeah, i liked Star's 92 drumline aswell, especially as they were keeping the mylar snareline thing alive, but i suppose they tend to get overlooked by the 93 line. As for the Crossmen, well they just grooved the house down. Listening to Cavies when James Campbell was in charge reminds slightly of the way alot of studio drummers approach the writing for a song. Imo the design of the drum writing tended to lean towards the " total package " or " song first " approach to their shows and tended to sound very GE laden. There is nothing wrong with that approach, far from it, but with the way the juding system is set up nowadays and in the late 80's & 90's that type of writing is always going to win out over the more drumming focused drum shows, such as Crossmens 92 line. It would be interesting to know if the design team for SCV had any other show concepts in mind before they decided upon Fiddler.
