Eric M. Buckman
As a member of Drum Corps from the 80's and having attended several WGI events...specifically 1989...I was wondering forget who is the best...but what other years was it evident that a guard or corps should have won and didn't...taking nothing away from State Street Review in 89 or Madison Scouts in 88...but BLESSED SAC ruled and Dev's are you kidding me...sure DCI was in Whitewater in 88, but honestly...to this day...I am utterly amazed at SAC's loss in 89...just curious. byline
Yup. Basically it screams, "I don't agree with the judges' decision, and for that reason I'm going to demean those guards." There's plenty of judging I've disagreed with over the years; nothing wrong with that. Maybe it's maturity, but these days I don't use it as a reason to dismiss any guards. There's no such thing as a "travesty" in WGI or DCI, as far as I'm concerned. The performances are what they are, the judging results are what they are. Not a whole lot we can do about either, and I prefer to appreciate what's good about it.
epwtrguard05
Here we go ................... Have to say ....................... and no one can dispute it - Sac was amazing in 1989!! I think the inovation of that show was misunderstood!!! WE now all know it set new standards for what we see today! I always thought, after seeing the Gordon Lightfoot show (it actually brought me to tears and still does), the judges didn't know how to react to it! They knew it was good but it definitely was different!!! So much for innovation and "thinking outside the box" ..........

Thankfully, after that season, the way guards were judged changed almost as much as the guards themselves did. Gordon Lightfoot show-- one of my faves. Complexity made to look simple... amazing. neholgate
OK... Slightly, um... totally off subject, but for whatever reason when I see the subject line to this thread I think it reads: "Biggest Transvestites in WGI or DCI". Nancy
TrishDish1002
I think that the fact that Sac is STILL being talked about (be it on this thread or elsewhere) all these years later means that they might not have won the gold but....they won!! They made, created and rewrote history. Sometimes being remembered means more!
