Orlando Show Citrus Bowl?

Recommended Posts

The show will be fine at the Citrus Bowl but it would have been "better" at UCF. Everyone that I have spoken to in the Orlando area thinks that the new stadium is great! It is an awesome addition to the campus & to the Orlando area. Some people don't know what they are talking about!!! Maybe DCI can use it next year if there is another Orlando show.

Citrus bowl is gettin a $175million expansion/renovation. Don't think it'll go to UCF anytime soon.

It's a 2-way street. Maybe UCF didn't want it?

It'll be interesting to see how DCI deals with the corps housing in & around Orlando.

"not want" is probably not the correct wording.

UCF has a great relationship with the surrounding community and the University is being very methodical in how events are added and making sure that we maintain that relationship.

Sue K. is a great friend (we were both associated with Suncoast and also worked together at Busch Gardens in the late 80's) and made the trip down, looked at the place and was blown away. It could be an absolutely amazing venue for a show, from both the corps, and even more the fans perspective.

So - for the record - we would LOVE, not like, LOVE to partner with DCI and have the show out at UCF. We will be in it for the long haul, and want to make sure that we don't rush anything as we are all still getting used to the impact a stadium has on the community. The housing issues still exist in florida, and, to be honest, that is my major concern as we move forward. I'm sure you all appreciate the amount of discussion that needs to take place before you bring 700 or 800 performers into a city on a tour stop. When we get the show - we want every single corps to make it THE stop on tour. That may take a little more time in building relationships, but it will be worth it in the end.

It doesn't happen overnight, or in a single season (something we are also committed to with Teal) - it takes time, local support, administrative support, and Athletics support. Dan and Sue are always great, they know our situation, and are totally supportive.

Best to all this winter, come by and say hi this summer to Teal!

Well, the Citrus Bowl was good enough for the WWE to use it for Wrestlemania this year.

I'm a big fan of them chosing the citrus bowl over Brighthouse stadium. Brighthouse stadium is a giant toilet bowl. The bleachers sway, and it was built with bare minimum stadium amenities since it's gradually gonna be upgraded over the years. There's not enough space for all the corps to park and setup in the lot at UCF. DCI is quite familiar with the Citrus Bowl and how their gigs work there. CB is also in a better area for the tourists who may travel to this show since it's near downtown.

My only beef with the show, is NONE of the corps i marched will be there (well, only 2 of the 4 are still active).

but THANK YOU DCI!!! 2 florida shows!!! and 3 if you count the Valdosta, GA show (which is right across the border) Road Trip!

With all due respect - you don't know what you're talking about. Brighthouse Stadium is totally safe, plenty of concessions, plenty of parking, plenty of hotels within a mile of campus (about 10), easy access to main roads (Greenway and I-4). We are only 15 minutes from downtown btw. Sightlines and sound is great, if not one of the best I have ever experienced - and that's during a football game. I can't even imagine it with a crowd of people there to watch and enjoy DCI - awesome.

The comment about no room for the corps is also ridiculous. Have you even been out here?

Citrus Bowl is a GREAT stadium for drumcorps (one of my all-time favorites), it's just old and that bothers some people. The area is the area.

UCF will be a fantastic place when/if we can get it done. It really is all about housing at this point. I want to host all the corps on campus (plenty of fields), so we are waiting for the renovations on the old arena to be finished before we begin having meetings. We aren't going to rush it - it is too important to me to do that.

Good thing UCF denied em.

Fans would not be happy there. PLEASE DCI, keep DCI Orlando at the Citrus Bowl for the future.

Again - another ridiculous and biased comment. We will sell out the front side, provide corps fans with an amazing venue with hotels and restaurants all close by, with a solid rain plan etc. Here's another thought.

What if we could build a florida tour? Jax, Orlando (UCF), Tampa, Sarasota, then back to orlando for a regional at the C-bowl. Give us a little time - it could be incredible. What if we built it like they do in Cali where all the corps could stay at the same place for a week and then do run-outs for the shows? That would be amazing for the Corps, and even better for Florida drumcorps fans. Think of the clinics, the exposure, the performance opportunities (theme parks).

UCF is going to do our best to partner with DCI and make all of this a reality. But we are just in the brain bending stages. You have to admit - it could be awesome.

C-Bowl renovation is stage 3 of downtown venues project. Stage 1 is the new arena, stage 2 is arts center (they will be constructed more or less at the same time). There is still much discussion about what gets done and how much they will spend.

C-Bowl will be unusable for approx one calendar year which would affect the DCI show for a season (depending on when they begin the renovation). I have "heard" that they will do all they can to protect the football games they have there (makes sense) which would mean they begin in late december, early january and bust butt through the winter/spring/summer in the hopes of completing it in time for the "Classic" and the bowl games. Hopefully no bad weather. UCF has actually been in the conversation to host some of these if the construction becomes backed up. But it all has to do with my previous posts.

It is going to be an amazing place once all three are completed but that is not until 2011 - here are some links

btw - UCF is building our own arts center beginning this fall - it is gonna be great.

Check out the Marching Knights practice field in phase 3 - a grass field on top of a parking garage! - I've got money it never happens!

The Citrus Hole?

DCI has had shows in worse stadiums than the citrus bowl. The Houston show used to be at Rice University stadium. That place is a dump! You can smell the urinals in the mens room from the stands. They have since moved to a very nice high school sport complex.

Gee, y'all are makin me out to be a Florida hater.

I'm 100% Floridian. Marched my first 2 summers in a Florida corps. I personally just like the Citrus Bowl over Brighthouse Stadium at the current time.

As for a Florida tour, it's a great idea, but it's so risky cause of Florida's miserable summer weather. The last DCI show in Tampa nearly got rained out and turned into a mudfest at USF. USF is building a new track/soccer stadium at the end of this summer, so that would make for a good "small" show.

It'd be nice to see DCI stick everyone in a centralized housing area, say Orlando, and have them commute to other shows. You could do Tampa, Orlando, Daytona(that's a big maybe though).

Or if they were to ever host a 2-day regional in Orlando again, whoever isn't playing at the regional, can drive an hour to tampa to play a show.
