As opposed to directly belittling and insulting the people, which most of the dinosaurs on here seems to do. (Not directed at the TC)

i can't believe anyone could post something like this. i mean, seriously, have you read some of the personal attacks the friends of narration post on here sometimes? in the last 48 hours i've read a couple of posts that made personal statements about me and the corps i'm an alumni of, because the pro-narration posters didn't like the content of my posts. it's not all right to call people names. and it isn't justified because "they or someone like them called me or someone like me a name."

Ive been called a dinosaur and Im 23. I only aged out in 2006. Right now amps/narration/vocals seem to be the apex of this right now, before that it ws Bb bugles, and before that dancing guards. But Bb bugles improved the overall quality of the product, as did dancing guards. Amps did too.

Drum corps seems to be changing just for the sake of change. its like the directors feel if theres not change, then theyve some how regressed. Theres a point to change to improve the activity. Being different just for differences sake.

many people cite innovation for this, but change and innoavtion are two differnt concepts.

becuase its all about narration, I think its important to note, that vocals/ narration are two differnt things, and If you have to resort to narration to explain your show, then its poorly designed, if you choose to design a show around it, you made a poor design choice. the cadets are paying for that now, as they are the most technically preficient corps in the field right now, (havent seen BD,SCV)

you can look at criminal for effective vocals, we all got the idea of the car chase, and the arrest with all of about 30 words. and 30 seconds. the vocals reffered to the activity on the field, and the effect was enhanced by, "you have th right to remain silent" and "drop your weapons". But again the story was told with the corps, and not one person's mouth

I'm getting sick and tired..tired and sick of people calling those that don't like the direction of the activity dinosaurs. Just because we don't like things doesn't make us a dinosaur, it means we don't like something.

I'm not old school, I learned about the activity in 1980, there were 21 class A and all girl corps, 44 corps in Prelims at championships. I marched in 1984..Go Bones. I grow up on Niner Two, New York Fantasy, T.O., Channel One Suite and others. I heard real drum solo's not breaks. Guards that didn't dance around for 75% of the show but did actual equipment work.

Today we don't even have a top 25 but 17. Why because we don't have 25 corps. And everytime I read "but corps are better then they were in 19?? or 20??" one more time I'll pimp slap someone. Guess why..Corps in 1972 were better then those in 1969. 1975 was better then 1972, 1984 was better then 1980, And guess what...2008 is better then all those years. It better be or something is seriously wrong. Heck I was better today then I was yesturday.

So when we're looking at the last 12 super corps and we can say theres not alot of them but there better then the ones in 2012 enjoy it. You won't be saying it in 2015. And us "dinosaurs" will be looking down saying we told you so.

I'M A DINOSAUR!!! RAWR!!!!! :-P

And for the record, I don't have a problem with HuntingtonMallets.. Hades (again) we might be distantly related (got relatives down at that WV/KY border area).

Oh please, it goes both ways. The insults get thrown around from both camps.

IMO, I think people might be calling other people "dinosaurs" because it is just a way for them to vent at those who constantly come in here day after day complaining about pretty much the same thing.

How many more threads do really need to have to talk about narration or the content of narration. I know many people say it covers up what the Cadets brass and percussion are doing. But the Cadets are still doing pretty well from a competitive stand point, and they got 2nd at finals last year. So if the judges can hear it and give the credit for it then the reality is ......so can the fans ...if they allow themselves too.

With regard to the content of narration. In an early thread someone was asking what does "breast cancer" have to do with drum corps. On that same side....what does Sparticus, Samuri, Horse Racing, Bike Racing, Boxing, James Bond, and Faust have to do with drum corps???

If people are offended or feel depressed about someone finding happiness after surviving breast cancer and a divorce...well thats your choice. Although I love the Star 93' show Medea.....many would considered that be a more depressing offensive story.....The myth of Medea deals with a scorned woman that is so upset that her husband left her for a younger woman, that the best revenge for her is to kill her own children to spite her husband.

In the early 80's didn't PR hand out librettos to explain one the of their earlier versions of "Sparticus". A show that many people admire and some consider a drum corps "classic". But, PR felt the need to explain the show to the audience......So for those who feel that a show should be able to stand on its own and not need explaining......Would you put the earlier "Sparticus" show now in the same standing as one of the resent Cadets show....from explaining perspective

Well stated. As someone with ADD it's already hard to focus on some Drum Corps shows (regardless of year), it makes it monumentally difficult to focus on the music and the visual package when being bombarded with constant narration.

I personally do not mind narration if it is added as a sort of "color commentary" where if the sound system didn't work, I could still enjoy the show and understand the concept. The Bluecoats show at Madison had some technical sound issues and I still understood what was going on without the narration. Along this line, I do not believe that the Cadets' show could stand alone w/o it's narration and be completely understandable by the audience. Conveying emotions is hard enough through music. Conveying the concept of breast cancer is nigh impossible.
