Wow, that's different haha. I don't know if they always do that at quarters since I've never been to them but I've never heard of the scoring being announced like that.

Here are the last scores prior for these guys.

and yes back in the day the top five over all scores of div 2/3 could perform at quarterfinals for div 1...then div 2/3 corps got better then div 1 corps and started making it into semis. some div 1 corps pitched a fit, and the rule changed that a div 2/3 corps could only perform in div 1 quarterfinals if they were going to perform as a div 1 corps the next year (rule went into effect in 2002). now that we have these classes and the schedule is DRASTICALLY different (anyone remember the DCI parade the day b4 opening ceremonies?), i highly doubt it will ever happen again.

I remember back in 2000 Surf was in the top 5 at finals and wen to perform at div 1 quarters and ended up on the top 21 cd

They tried tweaking the system for a while. Score were withheld for the audience (and even the corps once) from 1986 through 1988.
