After all the staff changes, your 2009 predictions

Awards:

GE: Phantom Regiment (Visual: PR, Music: Holy Name)

Visual: Cavaliers

Colorguard: Cavaliers

Brass: Holy Name

Percussion: Bluecoats

Spirit of Disney: TIE Bluecoats and SCV

1. Holy Name Cadets: This show salutes very small snippets of past Bernstein/Cadets material, though most of it is Bernstein that Cadets have not played before. Crowd backs the Cadets for the first time in a long while, and they deliver "Lenny" with a late season surge(as expected). Jumping over...

2(TIE). Phantom Regiment & Cavaliers: Though duking it out and leading the pack for most of the season, both Phantom Regiment and Cavaliers are jumped by Holy Name near Finals week. Extremely coincidental was the fact that both corps decided to do a show based off of Franz Liszt's "Totentanz" and Beethoven's 9th symphony. Phantom Regiment's show was called "Judgement" and had a story involving a soul of a person on judgement day looking back on his life and eventually getting into heaven. Cavaliers' show was called "Schizophonia" and confused most audiences everywhere, though it still looked really cool visually.

4. Bluecoats: Bluecoats were getting beaten by most corps for the majority of the season, though their show came together and finally surged to full potential during Finals week led by their smoking and unexpected champion drumline. Their show, entitled "Undead Rising", was for lack of a better description a 'Zombie Show'. Audiences were not very warm to it during the beginning of the season, though much like "Spartacus" it caught fire at the later part of the season with preshow and in-show GE through the roof including a Michael Jackson-esque star character and a colorguard dressed in every other world class drum corps uniform turning into zombies during the course of the show. Repertoire consisted of "Medea's Meditation and Dance of Vengence"(much to the dismay of many CCrown fans who feel that CCrown is Star's replacement & therefore owns Medea), "The Blue Wrath"(Shaun of the Dead theme), "

"(28 Days/Weeks Later theme), and snippets of "Autumn Leaves" for homage.

*Also like "Spartacus", a late season show change was made that boosted them past most of their competition. Where as Medea would typically close the show, Michael Jackson's "Thriller" was thrown in prior to the big hit, complete with dance. This won them a tie with SCV for a first ever tie for Spirit of Disney.

5. SCV: The Vanguard was looking for their first top 3 finish in a while, but Holy Name's and Bluecoats' surges proved too much. Though they dropped a bit from where they started the season at, the crowd was into this "Clue" show throughout the entire season. Different endings for every single show kept everyone on their toes. At finals night it was revealed that Colonel Hopkins did it in the DCI Headquarters with a Microphone. Hopkins appreciated the humor, but stated that he is actually a Captain, not a colonel.

6. Carolina Crown: It looked as though all the success of 2008 was riding into 2009 gracefully, but what the staff thought was a "safe" show became the downfall of CCrown's very possible top 3 finish. Extremely similar situation to Star 92. A show entitled "Freebird Suite" should have been their first warning that something was definitely not going to work out the way they wanted it to.

7. Blue Devils: Most potential new members turned their heads away from the Blue Devils organization because of their 2008 Finals night retreat epitome of "no class". Their staff also cut all members who they witnessed behaving immaturely that night in a decision made by director David Gibbs. Though in a rebuilding year, drum corps fans everywhere were extremely proud of the decisions the BD organization made and understood completely why they did that and why the Blue Devils were placing so low this year. It didn't really matter though, fans were going nuts over their show "Paint it Blue". Repertoire included "Paint it Black"(rolling stones), "Blue"(Yoko Kanno/Cowboy Bebop), and "Legend of the One Eyed Sailor" woven together in seamless old-school perfection.

8. Madison Scouts: The Scouts surprise everyone this year with their surprisingly ridiculous brass and percussion sections. Guard is much better than years past, but still lackluster in comparison to their competition. Show is called "In the Presence of Enemies" and is based off the insane Dream Theater piece of the same name. Incredibly odd time signatures and section features headline the entire show, aiding the Scouts to a 4th place Brass and Percussion finish. Visual is another story...

9. Boston Crusaders: 7th thru 12th place are too close for comfort this season, keeping many corps to lower finishes than they would typically deserve. Boston Crusaders is no exception, following up their Neocosmos show with a show entitled "Vengence". Hanz Zimmer's scores for "The Lion King" and "Batman Begins/The Dark Knight" aids in their efforts. However, a main character who actually looks like a cross between Batman and Simba sparks a heated debate on DCP over whether or not this show is actually good or not.

10. Blue Knights: At first most people thought a show entitled "Creationism" would make a lot of politicians, youtubers, and DCP fanatics unhappy, but it turned out that the show theme was actually called "Cretenism"(a disease) and that the show announcement had a rather large typo.

11. Glassmen: It doesn't really matter how good they are or what their show is, they're still going to get 11th place.

12. Crossmen: Bones jumped past the Blue Stars during finals week much like how Madison did to them in 2008. Apparently no one told them that Phantom Regiment and Cavaliers were already doing Liszt and Beethoven, because that's what their show repertoire was. X-men's show was entitled "Dead Bones"

I was extremely impressed with blue stars last year and think they deserved every bit of 8th place. However, understand that as you get higher it gets progressively harder to pass people up. SIGNIFICANTLY harder. Therefore I don't see Blue stars gaining any momentum this year. You can go ahead and make outlandish predictions that mean nothing, though.

Its funny because you are the one that seems to be taking offense to these outlandish predictions that mean nothing.

Sure 6th place is better than 7th, but as far as I'm concerned the Bluecoats 07 show was much much stronger than 08. I could see the Blue Stars giving them a run for their money this year
