Patrick_D
No, nothing against teachers. Hold them in quite high regard, actually ... Unless they don't realize they are in a service occupation and refuse to recognize who their customer is. :bla: Wrong ... They are buying an education paid for in their parents (and mine, in the case of Federal subsidies, where applicable) tax dollars. Teachers are providing a service. Plain and simple. I am: A tax payer, a citizen, a parent, and a Band Director/music educator... I agree that the Director shoud not let kids try out that they don't plan on allowing to participate should they make it... but I respectfully disagree with your logic about Taxpayers and their role in delegating teacher policies (although you are entitled to your opinion). Reality, should you like it or not: As a tax payer, you elect a local School Board. That School Board represents you, and is the "boss" of the teacher's and administration within your school district. Your vote is AS FAR as you can go in controling the policies set in motion by the teachers within your district. Should you wish to discuss policy with school administration that is your prerogative, but I suggest you have a argument stronger then "I"m your boss because I pay taxes" in your arsenal. Jason Harrison
Tell him that, if that's the case, you'll just have to sit it out. If he calls your bluff, bring your parents in.No teacher should have the right to discourage you from following an area that's of interest to you, the teacher's are there to serve your educational needs and interests, not the other way around. Is this band curricular or extracurricular? If it's extra then he can do anything he wants regarding his group (just like a football coach). If it is curricular then he needs to follow his district guided curriculum.
