What type synth is your corps..

Recommended Posts

So now that the top dogs get their new toys, who is getting what type of synth this year. We get to hear all about horns being changed, drums being switched, but synths???? Everyone playing Roland? Also, how much are these going to cost each corps? I would be hard pressed to believe that the top dogs aren't getting them for free. What is the word?

The bigger question is what the heck will they do with them when they have them. Hopefully we dont get any corps going overboard but then when you think of holy name.....oh boy.

If it comes down to quality the Rolands cant be beat but their price tags are STUPID expensive. Everything they make is rediculously priced. Most corps have sponsors with Yamaha or similar companies so my guess is this season will be experimental and a lot of different models will be leased or given to the big player corps.

My corps is a Moog. Analog dude. Pure analog.

They are called the Cleveland Moogs. 119 marching Moog players with cords on reels at their sides. I have 30 guard and one conductor.

We are performing a show called "Deodato." Let's see if anyone under 30 gets that.

Yeah, I can't wait to see how synths figure into (among other show concepts) Latin music and 1940's Copland . . .

</sarcasm>

I don't expect we'll find out the details of who's using what brands anytime soon, no more than anyone was forthcoming about their amplification set ups in 2004. I'm sure Yamaha has their fingers in the pie, though.

IMO, we're headed towards another year like 04 for some units, with poor usage of the "toys" by a few design teams who will decide that being on the "bleeding edge" (welcome to twenty years ago, guys!) will somehow translate to greater success competitively 'cause they can all of a sudden make the same sounds they heard on the "Axel F" video back in the 80's.

You know, there's a Korg app for the Nintendo DS that lets you make synth sounds . . .maybe we can march 150 DS's on the field.

I'd like for Phantom Regiment to use Mario Paint Composer on the field.

You cant use a Sequencer in DCI there Bawker. Just a Synth.

And I am sure there will be some nice Roland Fantom-X6's out there along With Yamaha Motif's. But the Corps that uses the Nord Wave will win the Synth Caption.
