biparadoxial diaphragmatic paralysis

Recommended Posts

Hey, Jared. Thanks for posting.

I've had similar pains in my right side since probably last spring, and it definitely feels like I have a diminished lung capacity. I'm not sure if it's the same condition, but I'll definitely have a doctor look at it the next time I get it checked out.

If it is the same condition, don't give up hope yet. I marched a full summer with a pretty demanding show this past season, and my stamina was never a problem.

JohnZ- Thanks for the info, man. I'll definitely ask the doc about the C3-5 area. He did say last time that I prolly severed my phrenic nerve.

Your welcome and good luck.

But it is that "probably" thing that if I were you would not be a good enough answer - you are too young not to seek out a more definitive diagnosis. it may also be entirely possible that you have an inflamed Phrenic nerve that might respond to steroids too. without a nerve study you don't have a definitive answer, IMO. Plus you indicated that his only experience with this condition was with two elderly patients - completely different scenarios, again IMO.

Like most doctors he won't like being second guessed, especially since you are accumulating information and opinion from the internet. but unless you have a financial reason not to get a second opinion from a specialist, I would insist on it.

J,

First thing first, my prayers are with you. I've had some physical issues since drum corps, but nothing like what you described. Take care of yourself and go make lots of money in medicine so you can research and find a cure, etc, and make life easier/better for others. You have a unique perspective due to your condition, and others can benefit tremendously from the work you may be able to do.

Also, I think it would be VERY interesting to hear from you occassionally and let us know how you're doing and what is happening with your progress in science. I'll tell you this much, you could make a VERY unique career for yourself given your disability and your connection to the DC activity if you concentrated on related ailments and research into cures, treatments, etc. I'll bet you could get any number of volunteers for studies, etc. Happy to chat further on my thoughts, though I'm science dumb...you'll be on your own as far as bio-chem goes!

Interesting write-up--thank you for sharing with us! And I'm glad you got to march for so long. Keep us all informed as to what's going on and what direction you go.

God be with you, little bro!

Dave
