  1. Eh... I'm willing to bet that those jazz running aren't playing in that block, and if they are, certainly not more than a mezzo forte. The top corps always know when to use the smoke and mirrors on difficult sets like this.
  2. It's not a cop out in any sense of the word. White pants= emphasis on feet. Black pants= emphasis on form. This translates to a COMPLETELY different style of drill design. Cavies/BD are able to pull off their kaleidoscopic and curvilinear drill so easily because all you see is their plume/upper body. If Crown or Cadets tried the same, the form is lost because seeing the feet moving muddies up the form. White pants look most impressive in pinwheels and block forms, while black pants can pull off all sorts of micro details (something like the diamond cutter would be a complete wash with PR or Crown's current unis, even if done cleanly.)
  3. You're not going to see different results if you try the same thing as last year. It's not that complicated.
  4. Since this thread is not exempt from pettiness, and all about arguing over opinions, I'll insert the only thing I know to be true. Affect is also a noun. Look it up.
  5. I think the biggest problem in this thread is that OP and other's are defining "dissonance" as music they don't like. Some of us do like it and can hum the music as atonal as it might be.
  6. I guess it would be funnier if this weren't the official opinion of a large group of regular posters on DCP. I do appreciate that there are those of you with tears in their eyes laughing at them, though.
  7. The scout uniform with a red sash instead of black would be killer.
  8. The scout uniform with a red sash instead of black would be killer.
  9. I'm amazed you folks can manage to get out of bed in the morning. I have it on pretty good authority that the sun will come up again tomorrow. Relax.
  10. No, no. This statement is laughable simply because it's easy to throw out there without any solutions. So what action do you suggest DCA should take to Bucs from "ruining" DCA? Disqualify the Bucs? Give the other corps handicaps? Institute a membership draft? It's ridiculous, dude. As Jeff Ream would say, the corps with the highest score wins, and it's just so happened that Bucs have gotten the highest score for a while. If another corps would like to take that away, then all they have to do is get a higher score. Please continue with your regularly programmed conspiracy theories.
  11. I read the first couple pages and nothing else. Does anyone have proof of this, or is this kind of like 30 pages of criticizing Crown for haveing a second set of horns they don't have? That would be pretty typical. Ya'll are priceless.
  12. Right. That has everything to do with the fans' opinions of the show design and rules changes and nothing to do with the economy or the unfavourable venue.
  13. Politically, the clarification was necessary. The reason why George gets all the heat is because he's the one playing the game the strongest. Option 1: Woodwinds get used a few times this year or next, and eventually get enough support to be incorporated into the real show. George gets what he wants. Option 2: Woodwinds get used a few times this year or next, and get booed out of the stadium until the rule is repealed. I imagine George will push for making the preshow judged again at that time, negating the rule allowing woodwinds. He's wanted a longer show for a few years now. George wins again. Option 2 is probably the more likely outcome and more likely intent, especially since it was mentioned that he put this rule out there along side making the preshow judged. My guess is that he figured the mere mention of woodwinds would scare the other directors into voting for the other, but I can't imagine he's unhappy with the opposite outcome.
  14. By "hung up," I mean that we've tried to move on to examples other than staff attire multiple times, and you keep ignoring all other examples to come back to this one.
  15. Brasso, can I ask you why you don't cite your corps experience in your sig? I don't mention mine because I don't want my comments to reflect poorly on the organizations and was and am affiliated with. This is the same idea. Staff members hanging out in front of the corps looking like slobs reflects poorly on the membership. This refers to both their attire and their actions (i.e. warming up the corps with red cups in hand.) No one is commenting on the trendiness of the outfits worn by staff members. We just feel that they shouldn't like slobs at performances. And personally, I don't think it needs to be said by anyone in the audience for them to realize the need to look presentable when out in public. I get a chuckle that they need to be told. Either way, I can't believe you're still hung up on this staff attire thing.
  16. Personally, I'm reaaal tired of hearing and seeing shows designed on the "1. opener 2. ballad 3. drum break 4. closer" formula, especially when the ballad has very little to do with the show except that it's pretty. If this is kind of the ballad you're looking for, then I'm glad it's dying. RIP. If it's the lack of pretty playing you're looking for, then as the others have said, your claim isn't all that justified. The idea of the ballad needs to be expanded from just a pretty song that's slow. There's soooo much that could be done with it.
  17. I certainly don't intend to speak for her, but I do intend to have the topic discussed and not leave it at the one example she has given. Especially since the topic of staff dress code has been beaten to death even before these 13 pages of circular argumentation.
  18. Wow, I know DCP is good at derailing threads, but... wow. Here's how I interpreted the first post: In an activity where we focus so greatly on minute details and improving the smallest of errors, we should be focused on the small things ALL the time, if not always, then at least when in uniform or performing. How the staff dresses was just one example of how this idea sometimes falls through the cracks. How you interpreted it: A critique of staff members' apparel and grooming habits. ...And then argued about nothing else for 13 pages. Let me preface this by saying I'm not old. I aged out in '08. ...And I completely agree with Granny Smith. Uniform etiquette was a HUGE deal where I came from. That being so, I cringe every time I see a corp walk to the gate chatting away out of step, or walk out of formation onto the field. Why do we polish the horns, shine our shoes, shave, etc. if we're just going to give it away by looking like crap walking on to the field? Why does the staff insist on making us polish our horns, shine our shoes, shave, etc. if there's even the possibility of making the corps look bad by dressing inappropriately? These are the little things that are indicative of bigger things. I once watched a member take off every article of clothing that was even close to our corps colours before he went to buy beer because of how it would affect the image of the corps. That's discipline. That's the kind of thing I assume Granny finds lacking. The problem with saying "Who cares?" is that it can easily be applied to anything under the right circumstances. Do it long enough, and you lower your standards. But to respond to the derailment, my corps had a rule for that, which trumped all other rules: Rule#1: Always look good.
  19. To get it back on topic, the views of DCA corps depend on which member is talking and where he's from. I marched with a bunch of guys from the NE that loved DCA. A bunch had already marched with Cabs, Bucs, Bush, Brigs, etc., and many planned to back to it afterward. The southern members were complete ****s to me about my DCA experience, however, telling me that my 4 years outside of DCI didn't compare, that my DCA championship "didn't really count", and reiterated the old drunk guys stereotype. These were also the members that were crying on age out night because they were never going to pick up a drum again, so I guess it's on them. No, I don't mean to say that all southern members are like this--just the select few I marched with. But DCA is certainly more established in the NE than anywhere else, so it's not surprising that the members that have actually seen a DCA show are more accepting of it.
  20. Madison '09 by far. I would have tried so badly to steal one of those if I were a BD rookie. (Too soon?)
  21. I think this is the best part: "If you have auditioned for another corps, and you bring to camp some proof of your audition, we will reduce the fee to $50 for your first camp. " Ha ha. Brilliant!
  22. Official announcement: http://apps.facebook.com/chasecommunitygiv...arities/top_100 There's no reason all 4 can't be the top winners if we all vote for them.
