AlexL
Well, as long as Finals are in Indy, Allentown makes the most sense because it's closer. Atlanta is closer to Indy than Allentown, but doesn't have the history behind it. So it's not just "because." yeah, it petty much is. there are plenty of other shows that have been holding shows a very long time as well, that dont get the kind of treatment Allentown does. whitedawn
Seems like this "allentown has to be the last show" thing is only a thing of the last 10 years. fine with me. consistency breeds consistency. anything positive dci can do to create some routine and tradition and still make some money is cool. also, dci east was at franklin field in 2001 and 2002 while j birney was under the knife. the thing is that dci east is like a huge drum corps homecoming for the right-hand side of the united states. many people -- self included -- go to allentown instead of finals. drum corps has found a home at j birney, when the corps are at the top of their games. plus, you wouldn't want to have a regional there before the corps get good. no one would clap. AlexL
the thing is that madison is like a huge drum corps homecoming for the midwest of the united states. many people -- self included -- go to madison instead of finals. drum corps has found a home at Camp Randall, when the corps are at the top of their games. plus, you wouldn't want to have a regional there before the corps get good. no one would clap. the thing is that denver is like a huge drum corps homecoming for the western\mountain region of the united states. many people -- self included -- go to denver instead of finals. drum corps has found a home at Invesco, when the corps are at the top of their games. plus, you wouldn't want to have a regional there before the corps get good. no one would clap. funny how this fits in elsewhere... rut-roh
funny how this fits in elsewhere... Madison hasn't held a consistent major DCI regional in the same manner that Allentown has. It IS, however, more suited for a DCI World Championship event than Allentown because of the stadium, but that's another topic. This is about the last major regional before finals. We're talking about a community in Allentown that has hosted a major DCI regional for the past THIRTY-THREE YEARS (minus the two in Philly due to renovation). No other current regional site comes close. So as long as finals is within reasonable distance to Allentown, they're going to get that regional. UWGKKpsi
What about a regional show as corps travel west-->east in St. Louis or DeKalb? Could be the answer... 1st YEAR ST LOUIS/DEKALB-DENVER-STANFORD-SAN ANTONIO-ATLANTA-ALLENTOWN-INDIANAPOLIS 2nd YEAR ALLENTOWN-ATLANTA-SAN ANTONIO-STANFORD-DENVER-DEKALB/ST LOUIS-INDIANAPOLIS Edited August 12, 2009 by UWGKKpsi
Peel Paint
PROPOSAL TO DCI - REVERSE THE SHOWS LEADING UP TO DCI EACH YEARThe last two years DCI starts the tour loop starting in Stanford, CA and going through Denver, San Antonio, Atlanta, Allentown and then on to Indianapolis for FINALS. Makes it great for the Atlanta-Allentown groups to see finished shows but kind of sucks for the Stanford crowd who only gets to see early versions of shows. The proposal - Can DCI reverse that loop every other year so it would go as follows: 1st YEAR STANFORD-DENVER-SAN ANTONIO-ATLANTA-ALLENTOWN-INDIANAPOLIS 2nd YEAR ALLENTOWN-ATLANTA-SAN ANTONIO-DENVER-STANFORD-INDIANAPOLIS IMHO it would allow all areas of the US to see better quality shows as the corps fine tune their show as they get closer to FINALS. What do you think DCI - sound like a plan? What?? You're adding an awful lot of miles and touring expense to corps budgets on those even-numbered years, and assuming you mean you want Stanford one week before finals, you're going to have a lot of tired and unrehearsed puppies dragging into Indy for championships. I see this proposal as a non-starter before the DCI directors. I can't imagine that they would even consider it.
flugelswerebugels
So basically all these replies saying you can't have a late season show on the West Coast because its too far back to Indy mean the west coast is stuck with only early season shows for the foreseeable future. Can someone remind me again why its a good idea to permanently locate finals in Indy?

AlexL
Can someone remind me again why its a good idea to permanently locate finals in Indy? Because we get to hold finals in a state of the art retractable roof stadium. Lawlz.
rut-roh
Cute reply and all, but if you're looking for more DCI Finals action on the west coast, you'll be waiting an awfully long time, with or without this ten year Indy commitment. Sorry.
