Live Season vs. Off Season

Recommended Posts

I joined DCPI for Season XIII, which, as you all know, was an off season. I have only done this for an off season, and I was wondering what to expect from my first live season.

Besides the fact that it follows the actual DCI schedule, what sets live seasons apart from off seasons?

We use REAL scores from the summer season! That's the biggest difference. So nobody knows what the score is going to be.

Say you pick Cadets as Music GE and they perform on June 22nd and you have your corps perform on June 22nd (on our DCPI schedule) then you get the score the Cadets got that night. If say the Cadets did not perform on the 22nd but your corps did then you would get a generated score based on some secret formula using previous scores, trends, etc..

THAT'S INSANE! This sounds like it's way more fun.

It certainly throws everything up in the air. The first people to identify caption trends over the course of the season usually finish high.

Is choosing your captions the same in terms of spending so many points on each one?

its not AS mathematical--although we cant deny it still is...your still watching scores in captions and down play the emotion of a feeling about a corps in order to win...but it has the added excitement of--say Cavies start blowing everyone away in percussion--do you jump over and grab them or do you say this is just a spurt, it will all go back to normal...or do you just pick all Phantom assuming they have no where to go but up?? OH the excitement!

It is. The main difference is that for live seasons, we only use the previous season's scores instead of multiple seasons' worth like we do in off-seasons.

So this year's values will go something like this:

Blue Devils-25

Crown- 24

Cadets-23

Cavaliers-22

Vanguard-21

Bluecoats-20

Boston-19

Blue Stars-18

Phantom-17

Glassmen-16

BK-15

Troopers-14

Colts-13

Academy-12

Madison-11

Crossmen-10

Spirit-9

Mandarins-8

PC-7

Jersey Surf-6

Pioneer-5

Cascades- 4

Unavailable until next off-season: Teal Sound (div 1, but in their first year of competition)
