Because they were better than the other kid at camps, and only recently discovered they couldn't take it any more? (I dunno, just a guess on my part.) You know... with, like... SNARES on it? And a top head making the bottom head vibrate and causing the snares across that bottom head to make a SNARE sound??? You know? Like it's SUPPOSED to??
