  1. "To spend more time with family" is often the tagline 😄
  2. Also in a similar vein, 1984 Cadets won it all but I believe placed 9th in drums (or was it 83? Or both?).
  3. Bluecoats in a fairly lengthy rain delay from field rehearsal this afternoon at Centerville. Isolated pop-up storm at the stadium that is just parked itself over the field.
  4. Does anyone have corps housing and rehearsal location information for this event?
  5. Does anyone have the full scoop on where competing corps are being housed for the Mason show on July 5th? Thanks in advance for any info...
  6. This, and honorable mention to SCV 82, end of the opener. I just love that push in the Giannini.
  7. Why so serious? 😄 Seriously though, if you're going to take this sort of a tough-as-nails approach to a reveal, I sure hope their show isn't rife with big toothy grins and bug squashing...
  8. And the mid-70s, when SCV marched copper Slingerlands for several consecutive years.
  9. I think another point that needs to be made is the fact that many local band programs have made the jump into scaled up productions since the days when DCI ruled the marching activity, and it is in this area where I think a lot of the local support has gone. The point about drum corps having no local ties anymore is a critical one in my opinion. Parental help, local revenue streams, local businesses pitching in to directly serve their customer base and support an educational mission connected to their local schools, supporting the kids in their town, etc etc. DCI corps are never going to see that again. And in many cases, the product put out by these high school band programs surpass what drum corps put out. It used to be that you had to go to DCI if you wanted to be the creme de la creme, now for many you can stay home and achieve it at your local school. It's still an arms race, but a more manageable one and certainly one that is closer to home for many.
  10. "Happy Little Trees," featuring music inspired by the art of Bob Ross
  11. If endurance is the issue, then just let Brandt announce the scores and placements
  12. Interesting how the corps is ahead of the conductor...
  13. Yes, and a massive Jack Nicholson head set up backfield ... "Here's Johnny!"
  14. The snares are the standard 12x14. And this does sound very very good, and the brass book is solid. This is the injection that PR needed. I also just listened to Boston's concert recording, and while both corps sound excellent even through the lousy recording quality, at this point Phantom's brass sounds considerably stronger to me. (But Boston's drumline... holy moly)
  15. My memory could be failing me, but I thought I remember Cadets planning on a Pat Metheny show for '90, but then switched some time over the winter to the Bernstein show.
  16. PBS has never been good exposure... And even less so now in the fragmented broadcast and streaming landscape.
  17. I'd definitely add 81/82 PR Spartacus to the list (and yes, 2008 can stay). Cadets 1988 Copland Symphony No 3 was pretty on point too.
  18. BD marched Slingerland back in the mid-70s ... 1975 for sure.
  19. You must watch this. You must watch ALL of this. Packed with juicy tidbits from the proverbial "horse's mouth." https://www.facebook.com/cadets.org/videos/1947105122087625/
