Has anyone ever done a thread about BINGO on DCP? Links to old threads?

I need to see what you guys know about Bingo operations with individual corps/organizations, regulations/laws in States, non-drum corps (AL/VFW, etc). I know that BD and SCV (as well as other CA corps) have a reputation for having had great Bingo operations historically. And I also know that there has been a good amount of discussion here about the changing face of CA non-profit Bingo and Casino/gambling laws.

I need information, and I figured there might be one or three of you on DCP who possesses the same...mind sharing?

If you don't want to post publicly, email me at silvertrombone@yahoo.com. Thanks!

I know the Bluecoats run a very successful bingo game, and I believe the Glassmen still have theirs as well. You might want to contact either of those two organizations regarding Bingo operations.

Since Bingo laws vary widely from State to State, finding out the Bingo laws for any other State than which you live would really be rather useless. Some States are lax in their Bingo laws, some States are extremely restrictive. I noticed that you are from Texas. So, contact your Texas Secretary of State to inquiry about Bingo Laws specific to the State of Texas.

Thanks, Stu. I have already spoken with the Texas Lottery Commission, which oversees non-profit Bingo in the State. I'm a few steps ahead of what you are suggesting and considering how I might partner with organizations outside the State of Texas in structuring our Bingo operations INSIDE the State of Texas. Texas law, for example, requires that all funds raised by non-profits be spent to support those non-profits in their activities INSIDE the State of Texas. And since even BD, The Cadets, Phantom Regiment and Bluecoats all come to Texas every year...get my point?

I don't care what laws in other States are so much as the experiences corps/organizations have had in Bingo in general. Any input on this? Contacts are appreciated.

Let me see if I understand you correctly. You found out that a non profit performing ensemble based in Texas can raise funds through Bingo; but they can only use those funds to support activities for that organization INSIDE the boarders of Texas. That means, if I am reading it correctly, that Bingo funds obtained by a Texas Drum Corps could support travel expenses to and from shows only within the State of Texas, but those same Bingo funds cannot be used to travel to shows once you get past the Oklahoma, Arkansas, New Mexico, or Louisiana borders. Correct?

I am wondering if someone could do a bingo like operation with one of those "arcades" you see all over the place in FL. We have a world class corps in NE FL, but I think South FL can support a corps....thats not based out of Boston.

That may be true about the transportation, but I'm wondering if the infrastructure costs could be covered with this since it supports the group practicing in texas, ie: horns, drums, poles, etc which would be used inside the border during the winter/spring months for practice. also staff salaries and other administrative costs which would be incurred during winter/spring rehearsals.

Bluecoat88: Here is his exact quote, "...requires that all funds raised by non-profits be spent to support those non-profits in their activities INSIDE the State of Texas". The words "all", "required", "activities", and "inside" when placed in context of this sentence indicate that even the horns purchased through Bingo revenue would have to only be used for activities inside the State of Texas. Hopefully he read the law incorrectly, otherwise that stinks.
