Spirit is excited to announce Chris Hestin as the new Percussion Caption Head for the organization. Chris has most recently served as the Percussion Caption Head and Arranger for the Glassmen drum and bugle corps ( 2003-2008) and previously as the Percussion Specialist for the Kiski Area School District (2000-2006). His passion for the activity began as a member of the Phantom Regiment and has continued through years of teaching, coordinating, arranging, and judging.

“The professional success of Chris speaks for itself and he will be an exciting addition to the Spirit staff. His reputation in the drum corps activity, indoor percussion, and the judging arena has been of the highest quality for a long time,” states Joel Vincent, Executive Director.

Chris is currently an active WGI Percussion adjudicator and serves as the Percussion Judge Training Director for both the Mid-East Judges Association and the Florida Federation of Colorguards Circuit. He also presents annual clinics around the country as winter groups design and plan for their upcoming competition season. In the fall he adjudicates for Music for All/Bands of America, the Pennsylvania Federation of Contest Judges, and several other circuits around the country.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education and additionally in Music Composition from Indiana University of PA having studied with Dr. Gary Olmstead, Dr. Jack Stamp, and Daniel Perlongo. While pursuing a Masters degree in Music Technology from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh he focused on commercial scoring and sound design with Bill Purse. He continues to be inspired by the endless possibilities of melding acoustic and electronic sound mapping in the pageantry arts. Chris currently resides in Boston where he is pursuing opportunities in sound design and scoring for film and gaming.

Ummmm, what can I say but Wow! Wow! and Wow! A great addition for them, and not a writer mailing it in, but the man.

My favorite WGI judge and what a smart and organized dude. Congrats to Spirit and Chris.

I thought it was going to be someone else based on DCP rumors. Glad they were wrong. This is fantastic news and a pretty big shock considering I had not heard his named mentioned in the mix of those running for the position. He was so influential at Glassmen for keeping things "real" and for often being the "adult" in the room.

Love his writing and creativity. This is a pleasant surprise and a real find for Spirit.

Most excellent. Should bring a great deal of experience and connections. Seems to round out the level of the staff now since all the caption heads have experience producing top twelve shows and performances. Liked the corps last year. They grew so much from 09. Looking forward to more growth. Best of luck to Mr Hestin and Spirit 2011.
