I'm certainly not one to tell you how to feel regarding a show, and i honestly am not a huge MJ fan myself. As far as lacking the 'statesmen style moments', im not really sure where that comes from. The drum solo of smooth criminal and tag of 'bad' was classic statesmen, as i can easily recognize after only be there for 2 years. Maybe it still wasn't your cup of tea, and thats fine, but the moments were there.

As far as the design of the show, if you couldn't understand it, then i certainly dont blame you. It wasn't blatant, but there was a progression there. After the Man in the Mirror intro, it basically followed the progression of MJs life - from the comercialism in Billie Jean, to the angsty-portion of his life that stemmed a lot from his relationship with his father in Bad and You are not alone. The show ends with earth song because what he cared about near the end of life was saving the earth / starving children in africa, and all that. Man in the Mirror comes back at the end because, well, you've gotta start with yourself. So again, not the deepest thing in the world, but there was an underlying theme

So like i said, people like what they like, and i understand that a lot of baggage comes along with MJ that might affect some folks enjoyment of the show, but just thought i'd throw out that info in case you weren't aware :satisfied:

I know i made a few suggestions to ES staff after prelims about some of the wackyMJ stuff to put in...they howled! Sure, totally tasteless, but even they found it funny.

that said, no babies were dangled from the upper deck to help make this show work

I actually loved the idea of an MJ show, and in DCA Open Class, there's only one corps that could have pulled it off. As I said above, I really like the brass arrangements. The percussion writing was very good as well, though I didn't say that earlier. I jest felt that it didn't live up to the high expectations that ES tries to live up to year in and year out. Maybe it was though coming off the amazing Wizard of Oz show, which I thought was, hands down, the best Wizard show I've ever seen on the field, and my all-time personal favorite ES show.

I agree that I may have "over-reacted much", but I won't defend it because Ed and I know the truth here about his issue with my corps.

Ed, the timing/penalties judges job IS to note boundary violations as much as possible, along with making sure the corps enter and exit the field in the 17 minutes they are allotted (and other tasks). I'm not at all saying that the T&P judge didn't do his job Sunday. I'm saying that with the sheer number of violations that occurred, I'm shocked none of them were caught and that annoys me because for two seasons, we got nailed at prelims and lost our chance in 2007 of making Class A finals. Our own fault, of course, but now it's blatant and both of the corps I saw doing it have been around for years. Call it sour grapes if you like. As Stephan Anderman said so eloquently Saturday night, conversation on DCP can be lively here. That's why I try to avoid posting here altogether, but sometimes I just have to say something.

The solution for the boundary issue is to get rid of the boundary rules altogether. You can use the "entertainment" clause in order to justify it. I mean, who wouldn't love for Mr. Pero to jump up in the stands and start wailing, right? But I suppose that will happen when electronics are allowed too. I await Cadets2 arrival with baited breath. It will be interesting to see what happens the first time inconsistency happens - especially when it affects his corps.

Anyway, I've made my comments which were WAY off topic and ask that you return to your regularly-scheduled topic.

for future reference, if you have personal issues with certain folks/posters, it's best to leave them off when you post. Especially if a director of a corps and potential members may be reading.

Well if there is a issue with your corps let me know what it is because I am clueless. If your referring to the whole Farfegnugen VW thing that was like 100 years ago or so. Im well over that now.

The old saying goes "your only good as your last show"...

I loved Alliance last year and gave them glowing remarks. heck even some of my CV peeps accused me of selling out and crossing over to the dark side for some of my glowing remarks about Alliance 2010. My comments on Alliance 2010 are concreted in stone here on DCP if you care to go back and read them.

You've seen me critical this year because I really felt your show was just not up to the high standards Alliance has produced in the past. No worries. Every corps lays one out there every now and again.

Its ok if I did not dig your show this year. I hated Empires show with a passion and was very critical of their show too. Funny part of it is they are one of my favorite DCA corps of all time. I forgive them for it and as far as I am concerned Alliance and Empire both have a chance to win me back this coming season.
