TomPeashey
yup... drum corps = family perhaps this is the biggest negative for DCI vs DCA. More than ever - due to the ease of recruiting and the ability to know who you are recruiting - multiple family members are involved in DCA type corps (all aged weekend only etc) The current dci model for at least the top 15 corps making the "try out" the ultimate makes the coninuance of corps family members in the same corps less and less likely... with a nod to SCV and BD who maintain some family cohesiveness due to their quality products at the second tier level... the days of multiple family members in the same DCI corps are dwindling quickly. bandmanwalt
My son and I marched in championships together with Bucs in 05, 06, 07, 08, and 09. Marched with my now daughter-in-law the same 5 years. I also got to march with my daughter for the 08 championship. Although not for a championship, I also marched with my oldest son in Steel City and Westshore. My youngest son is now playing in Steel City Alumni with me. hairbear
My sister and I marched with Ohio Brass Factory, in 1982. That was her only year of all age corps. But if I may: Sandy McNeal will ALWAYS be my brother. Everyone already knows where we've been.
mneis
This marked the 5th straight year my daughter and I marched Brass. As always for me the best day of the season is the last day. The emotions of never being with this group of your friends again, the last performance together, last run through as a group. Everything about the last day is what makes it so wonderful. But to win a championship with my daughter is something that I will always remember. We have a special bond of music and drum corps, others in my family do not understand. My son and I have hockey and auto racing, the wife and I go to movies and casinos. But to have a passion and to share it makes everything we do worth the long days, rain, practice, heat, did I say rain. I was not just with my daughter. I had my other kids, my guard daughters and sons, my trumpet section family and 120 other close friends, to me they are all family and that is what made this year so very special for me. Buy the way, our first outdoor rehearsal of the season was in sleet and rain, so it was fitting that we ended the last day of our season in the rain. kuder
I wish I had musically inclined parents to march with! Instead I adopt some every summer from corps
