THeShadeOfNight
Am I the only one noticing how this is (so far) panning out to be like 2009 for the top bunch? Not just in placements, but in shows as well. 1) Blue Devils - Controversial show with undoubted talent. Controversial props as well. Will cause a stir regardless of placements. 2) Carolina Crown - A fan favorite and strong runner for the brass title. Excellent in a few subcaptions, not excelling in others. Title-worthy show with percussion holding back higher music scores. 3) Cadets - Solid show that is very enjoyable. No notable weaknesses but not a championship show. Will still get a lot of APD playtime. Great guard. 4) Phantom - (switch with Cavies) A great show with incredible music. Visual not holding them back this year though. 5) SCV - A show that can be seen as "going back to roots" playing. Incredible music and intricate visual design. Certain aspects holding them back. Ending of the show that gives a flashnack to past years (the probable music of the night) 6) Bloo - Very entertaining to some, overused electronics to others. Enjoyable horn book and deep brass sounds. Incredible hornline and drumline as always. Guard is strong but not comparable to the top 3. Seated comfortably in 6th from both directions. 7) Cavies - A strong showing from a not-so-Cavies show. Show design ultimately holds them back from advancement. Not perfect comparisons but anyone else noticing this trend in the season? Edited July 16, 2012 by THeShadeOfNight

How is currently placing 2nd in all visual subcaptions "holding them back the most"? http://www.dci.org/scores/recap/view.cfm?event_id=ee3f9398-b638-4cf4-9665-1f2874329762 I think most would agree the percussion seems to be the weakest link this year. If I was SCV I wouldn't be comfortable that Bluecoats are behind them.

The only differences IMO would be that BD's props are incidental to the design this year, verses their close integration into the performance in 2009; additionally, it was the Cadets with the "leg twisters" in 2009...this year, it's CC.
