glory
If I'm reading the schedule correctly, BD and SCV aren't attending each others' shows. Anyone know why? Anyone besides me think that's dopey? HH
Madera Dons
I have also wondered about the BD scheduling. After Sacramento this past Sunday they did not plan to show at Santa Clara or Oceanside. It seems like they also skipped one of the early SoCal shows last year. I don't see SCV skipping any shows in California. In recent years after this past weekend they head north rather than south to support the Oregon and Washington shows. They join back together prior to the Drums Along the Rockies weekend. When I look at their schedules I was surprised that neither corps is going to Casper, Wy to support the Troopers show. Crown, however, is going to Casper. I guess at some point you need to take a break to work on your show.
Noname
I guess at some point you need to take a break to work on your show. This is probably it. BD did the same thing last year as well.

After the Sacramento show, BD traditionally heads south to SoCal, while SCV heads north to Oregon. Then everybody meets up again in Utah. If your comment is based on The line-up for the Santa Clara show, note that while the A corps has already gone south, the BDB corps will as usual be at the Vangaurd show. I get the sense that BD is all about BD for BD and am unaware of what BD does or has done for the support of other corps in DCI. I do know about their outreach work to the Third World and South Africa/Indonesia/Japan/Ukraine, etc. But I am unaware of anything that they do for other organizations currently in DCI besides themselves. So I am not surprised that they skip California shows or the Trooper show which will be in Wyoming this year. Suggesting that the schedule as it is is an indication that BD "is all about BD" is pretty off base. The truth of the matter is that the west coast season is very short while at the same time spread over a wide distance. Yes, BD could choose to follow SCV north and leave the SoCal shows light on top end, world class corps. Or, SCV could choose to follow BD south and leave the shows in the northwest lacking for top corps. After this week, there won't be another show featuring a WC Finalist corps within a thousand miles of here for the rest of the year. The corps do their best to split the schedule so as to provide the best shows for the west coast as is possible given the limitations of time and distance. To even hint that it is based in some selfish motivation is simply not justified.
flammaster
They are doing clinics. SCV was up in Weed, CA doing their camp so they didn't come to DVC.
c mor
Are you speaking of the show in Pleasant Hill on July 7th? That is hosted by the B corps. The A corps is in Colorado. BD's show used to be Precision West. However, with the shortening of the drum corps season, and fewer weekends available, their show was discontinued in favor of Stanford - DCI West. I am old, but I seem to remember SC coming to BD Family days to at least get an early performance experience. Is that correct flammaster? Popular Post drilltech1
They do do a number of clinics around the country while they are on tour. The clinics are money makers for System Blue. It does nothing to assist other DCI corps. BD/System Blue charges a tuition for each student for which they get a tee-shirt, the opportunity to watch the Devils practice, and sometimes a small concert by the clinic participants is held. For the past two years I have attended the clinic BD held in Minneapolis for which BD was able to rehearse the whole day before the DCI regionals there in the same stadium in which they would compete the following day. There were no more than 3 dozen clinic participants who spent 90 of the time either in the stands watching the corps rehearse where to set the horn angles to the box, listening to Pete Emmons shout down to Todd Ryan how to restage the drill, or listen to Jack Meehan raise and lower volume levels of the hornline. The rest of the time the participants were out in the parking lot with the former director of Phantom before he went West to sell unis for Stansbury. Nope, this doesn't count as assisting other DCI corps.
