Pinwiz
No matter where Troop ends up, this season is already a success. I'd love it if they made Finals (if only because we can get a high-def version of the show WHY WON'T YOU LET US BUY HD DOWNLOADS OF NON-FINALISTS DCI?????) but things look good for the future no matter what.
BRASSO
Troop is 3.7 points ahead of their score at this time last year. The majority of WC Corps are ahead in their scores from last season at this date. But only a couple of last years top 25 Corps are more than 3 placements positions removed ( up or down ) from their DCI pecking order from last season. We all here are pretty used to this by now. Pinwiz
Three things: 1. Retention 2. Retention 3. Retention You know what helps with that? 1. Two good shows in a row. 2. Two good shows in a row. 3. Two good shows in a row. We've been going good show/bad show for quite a while now and I'm ecstatic to see the trend die.
Slingerland
1. Forward momentum (design and instruction-wise as well as placement-wise). There are no numbers 2 or 3. I'm not convinced that this year's version of Troopers gets it. We see the uniform. We know they're "traditional' in concept. But if you look at the years when Troopers were national contenders, you see that their programming philosophy had NOTHING to do with the current "Americana" concept - they were playing rock, jazz, movie music, etc, etc, etc. The "Americana" stuff, ironically enough, appeared when they were on the downslide in the late 70s. Take it for what it's worth. Like Madison, the best thing Troopers could do is look ahead, not behind. BRASSO
. The Troopers... " America's Corps".... should go out and play the theme and music from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show", or something maybe from the rocker Meatloaf, or something from Queen, or some nondescript Jazz. or perhaps do a Dada's anarchists styled show theme or some such. The Troopers could even consider doing a show revolving around the Italian filmmaker Enrico Fellini, and his brand of foreign film making. Sure... that'd work for The Troopers, bring the nation's audience to its feet, and help bring them up in placements and into the G7. Right. This makes a lot of sense as a way forward for The Troopers. Edited July 25, 2014 by BRASSO

Two pieces of evidence undermine your argument: 1. 2012 show, "This Was the Future," was all about movie music and jazz. 18th place. 2. 2013 show, "Magnificent 11," was . . . well, you know what it was. 13th place. Now, 13th and 18th places are not "national contenders" placements, to be sure. But anyone with eyes and ears can see that the 2013 program was an advancement in design and instruction over 2012. Ditto 2014 over 2013.
