kevingamin
Speaking of sound and waves and water, a few weeks ago in the "questions kids ask about science" at 538.com, they had a cool article: The Loudest Sound on Earth Would Kill You on the Spot. Among the many sounds discussed there are "microbaroms, which happen on the edges of storms at sea, when two ocean waves traveling in opposite directions meet, amplifying each other into a wave that's bigger than either was alone." Apparently these are so loud at infrasound frequencies that they interfere with the government's ability to track nuclear explosions. Drum Corps Planet - Come for the show, stay for the science.
