First on the field is the Columbus Saints from Columbus, Ohio. Their 2022 program is entitled “A Mixtape” and consists of:

Canon in D
Symphony No. 7
Bolero
L'Arlesienne

Following in the footsteps of the Bluecoats (and the Seattle Cascades before them), the Saints have a key tar player in their front ensemble. They also have an electric string player of some type. I’ve never send this design before, so I’ll be sure to post a picture during the performance.

We open with the tubas and the familiar bass strain of Canon in D. The rest of the corps builds on that sound, including the string player.

And the string player has now put his instrument aside and taking up trap set. Slight change.

Nice drum groove underneath the Canon. a great deal of drill happening on the field for such a small group, as well.

Tenor solo starts the next selection, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7. Currently all pit and percussion, but the brass joins in shortly.

If you’ve heard the Beethoven in Havana track which was viral a few years ago, this is at least similar to that arrangement.

Only 7 brass, so everybody is exposed in this entire show. I do not envy them.
