Walter
As much as I sometimes had to see the show a couple of times to catch everything they did....I simply loved watching VK. So much going on all the time...your eyes never stopped moving in fear of missing something hilarious!!!!!! A great corps for the times and sadly missed, as are all the other corps who have bit the dust over the past thirty years!!!!!!!!!
DCImonkey
I'd be happy to show here 87 show, but since I don't own that one yet....alas I cannot. The 1987 DVD is one of the next on my list, so trust I will! BTW, on behalf of all people who never got a chance to see VK in their heyday.....thank you. Big applause from me! mattvk
Who actually sang the Fat Lady's note at the end?????I was all the way up in the stands for finals and could hear it clearly - it was loud!!!!! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It was Amy Ty, a rookie guard member. Strange to hear that sound coming from her, since she was a rather petite girl...
mattvk
1990.... Why the white Converse instead of the red?  and right at the end of the show....the DM looks over at Side A and points at something..but they don't show what and the corps falls down. What'd I miss? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I was about to say that we went with white to make the visual scores better, but then I remembered we wore the baggies in '90 - not exactly the best way to blur the line between the leg and the foot! It was #### trying to keep those shoes clean from show to show... As for the end of the show, I don't think there was anything in the end zone at all. The whole thing was a nod to the Bridgemen, specifically from the end of their legendary '82 show. I'm embarrassed to say I've never seen that classic show, so I don't know exactly how the Bridgemen handled their faint, but that's where the idea came from (our show coordinator that year was the great Greg Clarke, a Bridgeman alum). Ex VK DM
QUOTE(DCImonkey @ Jul 22 2004, 07:12 PM)1990.... Why the white Converse instead of the red?  and right at the end of the show....the DM looks over at Side A and points at something..but they don't show what and the corps falls down. What'd I miss? We were looking at a Euph. player stagger like a drunk, until he hit the turf. When he hit the ground the rest of us were to follow. I was just pointing it out so that no one would miss it, except the camera. We went with the white Cons instead of the traditional red was just based on the colors of the uni. Red just wouldn't have worked. Plus the corps was originally going to have all purple pants. But when the manufacture couldn't get the pants done in time for our first show, the often mentioned Greg Clark went down to the LA garment district where a lot of those baggies were made, and asked for all the pants that had the pink pattern down the middle of the leg. It was a crazy alternative to the plan that worked. We sold SO MANY of those things out of our souvie truck that year, big money maker. We got them so cheap. The change happened about the same time Corps started removing the white stripe from the pants.

I have memories of someone modeling a pair along with the brand-new tux jackets there at OCC. I'd completely forgotten about anyone actually staggering around at the end of the show before the faint. Was it Joe "Eupho" Orth? It's all a blur to me now...
Ryan H. Turner
In 1987, I staggered too...except, it was at 1am down the middle of State Street in Madison as I was under the false impression that I was a drum major leading everyone back to the buses in a big parade... I think it was my first alcoholic drink (lots of drink) all summer long. Please Mr. Turner, get OUT of the middle of the street.

Can't remember his name but he was a BIG guy.
