The Origin of "May You Never Walk Alone"

Recommended Posts

The First time I ever heard You’ll Never Walk Alone. by Madison.

1974 Ithaca, ? DCI Finals. Madison came in second? and prior to leaving

they turned to SCV and played YNWA. At that point, it became very clear

to me, this was no every day drum corps. Their heart and soul with that magnificent full sound, sent the Madison Message so Beautifully,

yet loud and clear. It was in someways, the beginning of the 1975 season.

The 1975 Madison, one of the, if not "best blend" of Musicianship,

Ba!!s and Visual Attitude every achieved

Okay, in 1974 just before we went on to the field, I guess this is a little known fact, but our hornline played that song in the building where we and Madison warmed up. Our hornline blew that piece like I have never heard them blow it before or since. We were hyped!!! I remember Madison playing that as they went off and I remember it sent chills down my back, I also remember coming to attention when they went by, if I am wrong, please someone correct me. It was one of the most awesome experiences I had in the years I marched. Thank you to anyone who marched in Madison's hornline that year.

Not since then.  I still received Boys Life for about 5 years after I aged out! I thought they severed the relationship sooner though.

I had to apply for a scout leader post in '90, because I was 21 at the time. There was still an association with the explorer scouts at that time, I believe, for insurance. I seem to remember that we were the last age-outs that had to fill out the paperwork.
