He told me the story behind it and it was kind of cool: Here's the link while the IMG function is out of order: Cavaliers 1985 from Backfield My friend Ashley was backfield conductor in 1985. While on tour, there was a guy touring with the corps -- a teacher from Japan. They struck up a friendship because Ashley had been to Japan and spoke about 20 words of Japanese. At finals, this guy came backfield and snapped two pictures of Ashley on the podium -- this was the better of the two. Months after the season ended and he was well ensconced in "real life," he got an unexpected letter from Japan containing this photograph. Just a side note: If you look carefully at the picture of Sky Ryders at retreat....and look carefully at the ground by the soloists feet...you will see the corner of a flag. This flag was from the Long Island Kingsmen. It was put down as a memorial to all those that marched in that corps but never got to march in finals.
