PeeWee Posted August 15, 2005 Share Posted August 15, 2005 *sigh* as much as I love thunderstorms they better stay away in 2007, oh and they suck hardcore when you're suppose to be having all day drill rehearsal in about 4 hours, oh well the band can sit inside and play music and I can sit in the office hoping the "field" (it's a black top) dries enough to rehearse. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> These thunderstorms are in the mountains...waaaaaay inland, my friend. Drum Corps Driver Posted August 15, 2005 Share Posted August 15, 2005 Diesel will be over $4.50 a gal in Cal by 2007. I think only the larger corps will be able to make this tour. It may break organizations like The Magic, Crossmen, and others that are having financial problems. California corps have some great BINGO fund raising, and while it's costly to go to the East coast there are only about 6 corps that make that trek from the West Coast to the Midwest, and East. Also Diesel prices are cheaper in the Midwest and East. I think this move to the Rose Bowl is going to have disastrous consequences for smaller corps. Indian Casinos, card rooms, and other forms of sanctioned gambling have been eating away at Bingo revenues for years ... and it's only going to get worse. Will it be expensive to do the Western Tour ('cause I'm assuming the corps won't just show up in L.A., there will probably be a lot of show out West on the way)? Sure. Will that be offset by show revenues ... One hopes so. Will having the Championships on the West Coast be beneficial to DCI and Drum Corps in general? You bet. They may have to draw straws. Perhaps an ALLSTAR Alumni Corps that has SCV, BD, VK, Freelancers, Kingsmen, etc... I know, I know, it's not the same. I don't know why I'm even typing it. It would take 5 minutes for all 800 participants to come out and then about an hour to play thru all the corps "signature" pieces, then another 5 minutes to play off the field.
