When they turn backfield in the closer, before the timpani roll into the ending, the sound bounces off the backfield stands and creates such an amazing effect. Apparently, they have someone working with them that has taught a championship corps in the past (I think I remember hearing Cadets). Which brings me to my number 2 corps... Cadets - Their mellophones are nails! Year after year they play great stuff. 1998 and 2000 are among my favorites. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Almost all of the brass staff at crown now either marched or taught Star of Indiana. Donnie Vandoren was caption head of Cadets in the early 80's and '97-'98 and Star of Indiana every year (including Blast) except '85 and '87. Phansouth Posted August 22, 2005 Share Posted August 22, 2005 Cascades 03-04 Had Some extremely strong Mello Lines those years.03 Really sticks out in memory as the Mello line being the real " Workhorses" of the line. PR_ducky Posted August 23, 2005 Share Posted August 23, 2005 Have to go with PR and Cadets Star 91 still ranks as best mello line I have ever heard in person. I played baritone, but still recall marching at PR in 87, the first year they switched from French Horns to Mellos. I think the sound of the corps changed, but for better or worse who can say.
